The Quality Control Manager conducts day to day inspections of fabricated steel components, schedules non-destructive testing, administrates QC documents, coordinates with third party and ABSA inspectors.
Responsibilities:
- Internal and external inspection of fabricated components
- Visual weld inspection of vessels, pressure piping, and structural steel
- Inspect and document layout, dimensions, and materials for conformance to the approved shop drawings and job specifications
- Coordinate non-destructive testing with appropriate contractors
- Write non-conformance reports when necessary, and propose corrective action
- Coordinate third party and ABSA inspections
- Execute the inspection and sign-off of projects as per the Inspection Test Plan (ITP) when required
- Hydro-test inspection
- Complete all associated quality control documentation (U1, U1A, U4, AB83, AB40, etc)
- Review Material Test Reports when required
- Maintain welder continuity and organize welder qualification tests with third party organization
- Maintain calibration of equipment
- Compile, scan, and send final data books per client requirements
Requirements:
- Graduate secondary school education in welding technology, QA/QC or a related discipline at the University or College level. (CWB Level 2 Welding Certification, Certified Engineering Technologist, or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years fabrication/manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of ASME Code Section VIII/IX, ASME B31.3, and CSA standards.
- Understanding of specific NDE techniques; Liquid Penetration, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Ultrasonic Testing and Radiographic Testing.
- Effective use of ASTM/ASME/other standards, material specifications, statistics, to interpret and verify QA, NDE and other technical test data.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings such as piping and instrumentation, isometric and construction drawings.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently to complete assignments under deadlines
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail, efficient organizational skills, and the ability to complete tasks in a deadline oriented environment
- Ability to read and comprehend weld procedures, and welder qualification documents
- CWB supervisor or CSA W47.1/W59 endorsement
