Job summary

PCL Industrial Constructors Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta, is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to ensure project specifications, quality plans, and ITPs are followed. You will perform in-progress inspections, trade contractor surveillance, and support QA activities on site.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of QA/QC experience in heavy industrial construction.
  • Nuclear QA experience preferred; relevant quality experience considered.
  • Experience in nuclear or industrial fabrication/construction is required.
  • Bachelor of Engineering or related field.
  • Certifications (CSA 178.2, AWS, CWI, API) are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews project, prime contract, codes, standards, and subcontract details for specifications and quality requirements.
  • Supports nuclear quality activities and ensures compliance with industry standards.
  • Supports development, implementation, and maintenance of quality management systems and procedures.
  • Supports bids, customer specification reviews, and implementation of requirements.
  • Assists with audits per PCL’s quality program.
  • Provide technical guidance to procurement staff, engineering teams, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Supports quality activities aligned with project scope as per contract terms.
  • Acts as a liaison with craft/staff to provide technical assistance.
  • Conduct in-process and final shop inspections and surveillance of subcontractors.
  • Verifies trade contractor compliance with their quality program and documents.
  • Supports daily QA/QC activities with construction activities.
  • Stays current with industry practices and seeks new construction methods.

  • Reviews project, prime contract, codes, standards, and subcontract details for specifications and quality requirements.
  • Supports all nuclear quality activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports and maintains the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality management systems and procedures.
  • Supports bids, customer specification reviews, and implementation of requirements
  • Assists with jurisdictional and compliance audits per PCL’s quality program
  • Provide technical guidance and support to procurement staff, engineering teams, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Supports quality activities aligned with project scope as per the contract terms and conditions.
  • Acts as a liaison with craft/staff personnel to provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Conduct in-process and final shop inspections, perform subcontractor surveillance and inspections, and support daily shop activities to ensure compliance with quality and project requirements as required.
  • Verifies trade contractor compliance with their quality program and contract documents.
  • Provides support for daily quality assurance/quality coordinator (QA/QC) activities with construction activities.
  • Stays current with industry practices and technology and seeks new and innovative construction methods and processes.
  • Provides support to field management to ensure the protection of finished work.
  • Develops and maintains strong customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance/quality control and/or the heavy industrial construction industry preferred.
  • Nuclear quality assurance experience is preferred. Candidates with relevant quality experience in heavy industrial fabrication or construction will also be considered.
  • Experience in nuclear or industrial fabrication/construction industries is required.
  • Relevant education and certifications in quality, bachelor of engineering, or nuclear fields.
  • Familiar with or maintain certifications with regulatory and compliance requirements for field of discipline is considered an asset (e.g., Canadian Standards Association (CSA) 178.2 level I, II or III certification, American Welding Society (AWS), Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Level 1, API (American Petroleum Institute) 510/570/653 inspector).
  • Basic knowledge of the construction industry; understands specifications, methods, and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of codes related to the construction industry.
  • Basic construction inspection skills.
  • Basic understanding of internal project quality assessment process.
  • Strong planning, organization, and time-management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize own work.
  • Strong record-keeping skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Basic computer skills with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other software as required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and drive high-performance teams.
  • High ethical standards and professionalism.
