Job Summary

The Quality Control Field Technician Level 3 is a developmental role that significantly impacts the success of Fermar Paving Ltd. (“the Company”) operations, focusing on quality and risk mitigation.

This role is responsible for assessing the quality of Asphalt Mix designs and workmanship in the field, ensuring the product delivered by the Company’s and subcontractor crews meets all specifications.

The technician coordinates testing with the Client’s agent on site to ensure testing integrity, materials meet customer specifications, and standards set by MTO and CCIL (Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories).

Under the oversight of Level 1 or Level 2 technicians, this role ensures that all quality testing and tracking for assigned sites and projects are completed to meet or exceed standards.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership Development
  • Collaborate with Level 2 Tech for mentorship, training, and support.
  • Discuss personal goals and performance with QC Level 2 and QC Manager.
  • Champion a zero-tolerance safety culture and complete all safety documentation.
Planning / Financial
  • Work with Level 2 Tech on progressively complex tasks to develop skills.
  • Identify potential compliance or performance issues and recommend corrective actions promptly.
Operating
  • Attend pre-construction and progress meetings as appropriate.
  • Address onsite quality issues and communicate with crews.
  • Report quality test results and raise concerns with project managers and engineers.
  • Maintain daily logs of testing and productivity.
  • Participate in safety meetings.
Education and Experience
  • College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (minimum 2 years).
  • Experience in QC, including field positions, is an asset.
Management Skills
  • Exhibit critical thinking and risk mitigation skills.
  • Work effectively under deadlines and pressure.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and codes.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Act independently with confidence, following guidelines.
  • Maintain focus and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
