Job description

We are seeking a Quality Control Bioanalytics Co-op to join Aspect’s multidisciplinary Quality Control Analytics team focused on assay development and characterization of 3D bioprinted tissue therapeutics as life-changing, cell-based implantable therapeutics. In this role, you will provide support to design and execute biological, biomechanical, and/or biomaterial properties of 3D bioprinted tissues for pre-clinical and partnership development tracks. This is an exciting opportunity for you to work closely with a team of cell biologists, biomaterials experts, and engineers to develop bioprinted tissues that could transform the way we develop medicines and treat disease.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in vitro assays to assess the health, function, and maturation of 3D tissues, including techniques such as cell viability assays, immunostaining, and ELISA.
  • Conduct routine characterization of biomaterial properties of 3D bioprinted tissues using methods such as rheological viscosity measurements, osmolality and pH testing, and material identification via FTIR spectroscopy.
  • Conduct accelerated degradation studies and assist in the implementation of stability programs to evaluate alginates and other biomaterials used in bioprinted therapeutic tissues over time.
  • Development of permeation assays and cast gel preparation and analysis.
  • Help develop and optimize biomaterial compatibility assays to assess raw material integration and performance in tissue constructs.
  • Support assay development and documentation of protocols, forms, and reports to ensure reproducibility and adherence to regulatory and industry standards.
  • Assist in the qualification and validation of analytical equipment and assays, ensuring alignment with QC and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain rigorous, accurate records using Aspect’s Quality Management System (QMS) to support data integrity and compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate tissue therapeutics across preclinical and partnership development tracks.

Qualifications

  • Education: Student enrolled in biomaterials science, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or a related life sciences program.
  • Lab Experience: You have hands-on experience in a wet lab environment, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Assay Skills: Proficient in a range of biological and biomaterial characterization techniques, including ELISA, FTIR, rheometry, and analytical methods used to assess the physical, chemical, mechanical, and biological properties of hydrogel-based biomaterials.
  • Cell Culture Experience: Proficient with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture; experience with 3D cultures, iPSC-derived cells, or organoids is an asset.

The hiring range for this role is $3750-$4000, monthly. Our ranges are based on market data. Offered salaries will be based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates who exceed role requirements, we are open to exploring above-range offers. Note that base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Aspect. Members of the Aspect team also receive equity, a comprehensive benefits package, and support for continuous learning and career progression.
