Our facility in Mississauga, ON is hiring for a Quality Continuous Improvement (QCI) Program Lead, who will play a key supporting role in upholding food safety and quality standards across the bakery by executing daily quality and food safety tasks, maintaining accurate documentation, and driving proactive compliance with regulatory and customer requirements. Working closely with the Quality CI Manager and cross-functional teams, this role ensures consistent monitoring of product and process parameters, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and reinforces a strong food safety culture.
With responsibilities spanning quality control checks, record verification, sanitation oversight, and environmental monitoring, the QCI Program Lead serves as a hands-on contributor to the site’s HACCP and prerequisite programs. This position also assists in preparing for audits, investigating consumer complaints, managing calibration schedules, and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality. The QCI Program Lead’s attention to detail and commitment to excellence play a critical role in delivering safe, consistent, and high-quality products to customers.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Acts as a backup to the Quality CI Manager as needed, ensuring continuity of food safety and quality oversight in their absence.
- Performs shelf-life evaluations on finished products per established procedures and documents findings accurately.
- Conducts daily GMP walkthroughs, reports all observations, and supports root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) implementation in collaboration with the Quality CI Manager.
- Supports the development and delivery of food safety and quality training programs in partnership with the QSL, ensuring all employees understand and uphold quality standards.
- Manages product specification verification and maintains accurate, up-to-date documentation to ensure compliance with internal and customer requirements.
- Examine incoming raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to verify conformance with food safety and quality standards.
- Verifies packaging operations, including correct labeling, lot codes, best-before dates, and carton labeling, to ensure compliance with regulatory and brand standards.
- Conducts sampling of the environment, equipment, water, raw materials, and finished products for microbiological, analytical, and sensory evaluation.
- Provides QA support during product trials and first production runs, ensuring compliance with Stage Gate protocols and specification alignment.
- Oversees hold and disposition processes for ingredients and finished products, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication.
- Assists with the maintenance and execution of HACCP programs, including record reviews, verification steps, and team coordination.
- Participates in and supports internal, third-party, CFIA, and/or FDA audits, contributing to site readiness and documentation accuracy.
- Identifies and reports non-conformances for any out-of-compliance situations or food safety incidents and supports RCA and CAPA for ingredients, packaging, and finished goods in collaboration with the Quality CI Manager.
- Perform routine inspections for glass and brittle plastic control, pest activity, and overall facility food safety compliance.
- Supports the Quality CI Manager with Right-First-Time (RFT) data tracking and contributes to consumer complaint investigations and resolution.
- Reports and logs analytical and sensory testing results for each production line to ensure compliance with internal and customer specifications.
- Completes shift reports, quality audits, and documentation as required for operational and compliance needs.
- Conducts certificate of analysis (COA) reviews, performs accurate data entry, and maintains organized records.
- Issues Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for deviations in incoming ingredients or packaging, ensuring timely escalation and follow-up.
Required Experience
- 2–3 years of hands-on experience in Quality Assurance or Food Safety within a food manufacturing or processing environment; bakery experience is an asset.
- Solid understanding of GMPs, HACCP principles, food safety systems, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CFIA, FDA, BRC, or SQF).
- Experience conducting internal audits, environmental monitoring, and executing product holds, root cause investigations, and CAPAs.
- Familiarity with packaging and labeling compliance, product specification verification, and traceability systems.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret analytical and microbiological test results and support shelf-life, sensory, and product evaluations.
- Working knowledge of calibration protocols, non-conformance reporting, and document control processes.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and train frontline teams.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and quality data management systems for reporting and documentation.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement projects, first production runs, or Stage Gate product development is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related discipline preferred.
