As a QA Specialist, you will work within the Quality Assurance department to support product release in Canada and international markets. The QA Specialist completes tasks related to monitoring, testing, reporting, and ensuring the quality of cannabis products and processes within the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS). This position involves batch record review, supplier quality, customer complaints, internal and external audits, compliance, metrics and reporting, and maintaining the QMS and applicable regulations throughout the company.

This position is based out of Stayner, ON.

What you’ll be doing :

  1. Maintain compliance with laws and regulations related to cannabis products released to Canada and international markets.
  2. Develop and execute procedures and processes to support the Quality Management System.
  3. Support problem-solving teams using quality principles and tools for root cause analysis, corrective actions, verification, and effectiveness.
  4. Conduct complaint and deviation investigations, ensuring appropriate Corrective Action and Preventive Action (CAPA) are implemented and closed in a timely manner.
  5. Work with cross-functional teams to review and assess change controls.
  6. Review and support activities related to QA records, deviations, CAPAs, batch record review, label approvals, and other QMS documentation.
  7. Liaise with external suppliers and contract manufacturers, reviewing documentation to ensure quality standards are met.
  8. Support logistics of product recalls and returns.
  9. Assist with government inspections and customer audits.
  10. Participate and facilitate internal QMS and supplier audits, generating reports.
  11. Author HACCP and Preventive Control Plans.
  12. Conduct QA activities related to the export of cannabis.
  13. Participate in process risk assessments such as material risk review and FMEA.
  14. Review global QMS metrics, reporting, trend analysis, and help establish corrective actions.
  15. Engage in continual improvement activities like 5S, Kaizen, and lean methods.
  16. Complete and prepare documentation such as reports, SOPs, and Work Instructions.
  17. Support external suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure quality requirements are maintained, review engineering protocols, and validate equipment/process qualifications.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions, Environment & Physical Demands

  • Some overtime may be required.
  • Travel may be required as needed.

You’ll need to have :

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and Preventive Control Plan principles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Health Canada Cannabis Regulations, FDA Good Manufacturing Practices, and related regulations.
  • Understanding of edible cannabis safety.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, industry standards, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Access, SharePoint, Visio, and Excel.
  • Problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience developing and maintaining KPIs and quality metrics.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software is an asset.
  • Effective communication skills, both in person and via email.
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • ASQ certification is an asset.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry is beneficial but not required.
