FOOD MANUFACTURING / DISTRIBUTION EXPERIENCE A MUST.

PURPOSE

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for maintenance and monitoring of Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and HACCP Programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :

  • Focusing on continuous improvement, provide ongoing support with Malabar’s Quality and Food Safety programs including HACCP;
  • Conduct daily Pre-Op inspection and GMP inspection;
  • Verify sanitation and allergen changeover procedures. Assist with annual validation;
  • Conduct weekly scale checks and monthly thermometer checks;
  • Ensure that all records, procedures and processes, packaging, chemicals, and equipment are in compliance with applicable government regulations;
  • Conduct daily checks of incoming raw materials and finished blends. Provide immediate feedback to operations and purchasing personnel;
  • Assist with training, re-training, and any additional follow-up for all employees on Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and HACCP Principles;
  • Perform monthly environmental monitoring swabs and submit periodic spice / blend samples for micro-analysis verification;
  • Perform weekly sanitation swab testing;
  • Investigate quality concerns with customers and suppliers; resolve and follow-up on corrective actions;
  • Update and maintain Kosher and Halal certificates;
  • Assist Product Development with blending and development of new formulations according to customer requirements;
  • Maintain test center facility and equipment;
  • Order laboratory supplies as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary degree in Food Chemistry or equivalent from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in food manufacturing;
  • Experience within a laboratory setting including hands-on experience with experimental design and requirements;
  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards (i.e. HACCP, ISO, SR & ED, etc.);
  • Working knowledge of quality practices and procedures and the ability to coordinate and maintain a HACCP Program;
  • Strong mathematical and computer skills;
  • Knowledge of labeling regulations and guidelines;
  • Thorough understanding of existing raw materials and their functionalities;
  • Solid understanding of production processes and procedures, including plan and office.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills are a must;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization as well as with customers;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Attention to detail is essential;
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and resolve discrepancies in a reasonable amount of time.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Incumbent often works under pressure and time constraints.
