Status: Permanent Full Time

Position Summary

As an integral member of the Laboratory Medicine Program (TeamLMP), the Quality Assurance & Service Specialist will provide the technical expertise required to provide ongoing support to all quality system and regulatory functions within the Histocompatibility, Genome Diagnostics and Cancer Cytogenetics Laboratories of the University Health Network.

Duties

  • Lead in the creation of the quality plan for the Histocompatibility, Genome Diagnostics and Cancer cytogenetics labs while maintaining alignment with LMP's overarching quality management system and its goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with TeamLMP management, this individual will ensure regulatory conformance within each assigned discipline.
  • Implement and maintain a discipline-specific quality plan, while leading the team in the maintenance of high standards in laboratory best practices
  • Achieve conformance with applicable regulatory agency and accreditation requirements such as Accreditation Canada Diagnostics, Accreditation Canada (hospital-wide), American Association of Blood Banks, College of American Pathologists, American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, Health Canada and Transportation of Dangerous Goods assessments and any other future applicable licensing, regulatory or accreditation programs
  • Participate in the on-call rotation in partnership with the managers and supervisors to ensure timely responsiveness in laboratory operations
  • Work with TeamLMP's Quality Manager when a patient Serious Safety Even is reported
  • Assist in the design of studies, collecting and analyzing scientific data, drafting abstracts, scientific papers and posters and giving presentations related to discipline-specific quality issues
  • Lead the staff competency program, technical validation leadership, supporting managers with service and satisfaction and safety initiatives


Qualifications

  • Completion of a 3 year community college program in Medical Laboratory Technology, required
  • Certification in quality assurance practices, preferred
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Technologists of Ontario, required
  • Three (3) years experience in a large tertiary care hospital organization, required
  • Two (2) years experience in Advanced Diagnostic Laboratories (Genome Diagnostics, Cancer Cytogenetics and/or Histocompatibility)
  • Knowledge of accreditation programs, and experience in assessments
  • Proficiency with Epic, preferred
  • Proficiency with philosophy and practice of continuous quality improvement (CQI) and total quality management (TQM) techniques preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem solving
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills demonstrating responsibility and leadership
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of statistical methods Computer skills and familiarity with software applications such as Word and Excel
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Change management experience, required
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and perceptive
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Computer proficiency with database management an asset
  • Remain flexible to changing priorities and work volume
