The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is looking for a skilled individual to join their highway engineering team, focusing on quality assurance and inspection on construction sites. Candidates will work closely with consultants and demonstrate a strong understanding of engineering materials. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in the field while ensuring standards are met in the highway construction process.

About the job
In this position, your role will include:
• Monitoring and reporting on quality assurance and inspection activities on highway construction sites.
• Monitoring consultant testing laboratories.
• Providing technical expertise.
NOTE: This position requires occasionally travel with overnight stays, as well as working during night hours.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering materials applicable to highway construction and maintenance, including a sound knowledge of highway construction standards and specifications.
• Knowledge of sampling, testing and performance of highway construction materials (normally acquired through a diploma in civil engineering technology or related field and/or work experience) to collect and analyze data, prepare and evaluate reports and resolve issues that deviate from accepted standards and practices.
• Knowledge and experience with inspection practices.
Analytical, Evaluative and Organizational Skills
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and contribute to effectively resolving problems.
• Planning, organizing and coordinating skills, with an ability to prioritize effectively.
• Demonstrated understanding of, and concern for quality standards.
Interpersonal Skills
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with staff, contractors and the public.
• Demonstrated integrity and flexibility in work demeanor.
Computer Skills
• Demonstrated proficiency using common office productivity software.
