Job description

The Quality Engineer plans, implements and coordinates activities concerned with the development, application and improvement of StandardAero’s quality system governing production processes, materials, products and parts. Leads and/or participates in the development and maintenance of the quality system. You are comfortable working on initiatives or projects essential to successful Business Operations.

Reports Directly To: Director, Quality (BU) or Manager, Quality (BU)

Reports Functionally To: Vice President, Engineering & Quality

Safety Management System (SMS) Specific Accountabilities
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in the StandardAero Product Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Facilitates SMS related tools, methods and concepts as defined in SA policies and procedures.
  • Analyses product flight safety critical parts and processes to mitigate unacceptable risk.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting and initiating responses to flight/product safety concerns.
  • Facilitates proactive risk analysis of flight/product safety critical parts and processes.
  • Recognizes and understands the Just Culture policy.
Specific Accountabilities
  • Develops/initiates and maintains quality measures of performance for key/critical processes using established company databases and report tools.
  • Communicates and coordinates quality assurance reporting and events regarding product quality.
  • Investigates and reports on quality concerns and potential implications with warranty and safety issues.
  • Analyzes, assesses, and reports quality and operational data as needed by management.
  • Generates statistical reports identifying quality concerns for submission to various levels of management for review and corrective action.
  • Researches quality methodology and solves quality problems using a team-based approach.
  • Aids in the development of methods and standards for inspection, testing and evaluation using statistical techniques.
  • Establishes programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement and analytical equipment and facilities.
  • Assists the Training department with the development and presentation of training on quality topics in areas that may include:
  • The quality system, SMS, continual improvement, corrective action, root cause analysis, Lean methodologies, Product Inspection, measurement methodologies, statistical process control and test fixture operations.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Carries out special projects as assigned.
Technical Requirements
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Quality Management Systems, company processes, quality and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) technical manuals.
  • Thorough knowledge of Transport Canada airworthiness certification requirements and other regulatory bodies.
  • Working knowledge of PCs in the current company operating system environment (MS OFFICE).
  • Proficient in selection and application of statistical techniques and trend analysis tools (Power BI, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
  • Working knowledge of production management computer systems (SA Menu, Oracle, Trello, etc.).
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints & technical writing.
  • Professional registration is preferred in jurisdictions governed by a regulatory body or with an association that is governed by local legal requirements.
  • University degree in mechanical, industrial or aerospace engineering; or equivalent.
  • Several years of experience in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
