Job Title: Quality Assurance Assistant– MRO for turboshaft & turbofan engines
Location: Montreal, QC, Canada
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Reports to: Director ofQuality Assurance
Job Summary:
The Quality Assurance Officer role is a key position within the team, providing essential assistance in maintaining the high standards of quality required for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of turboshaft & turbofan engines. This position supports the implementation of quality assurance processes, inspections, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that all MRO activities meet industry standards, OEM specifications, and regulatory requirements. The role is ideal for individuals with an interest in aviation and aerospace quality assurance, specifically in the engine MRO sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance Support: Documentation & Record Keeping: Ensure staff are using the most up to date documentation (internal forms and technical publications) to remain compliant with regulations. Update and/or create internal forms as needed.
- Compliance Checks: Support the team in verifying that all MRO activities adhere to Transport Canada/FAA/EASA and other regulations, OEM specifications, and internal company quality standards.
- Support Audits & Inspections: Assist with internal audits and third-party inspections, ensuring that quality control processes are being followed correctly.
- Tooling Calibration: Monitor all calibrated tooling requirements (using company software) to ensure that all needs are addressed prior to due dates and that no expired tools are in use on the shop floor.
- Shelf-Life Control: Monitor all shelf-life controlled material requirements (using company software) to ensure that all needs are addressed prior to due dates and that no expired products are in use on the shop floor. Coordinate with the purchasing department for replacing and disposing of such products.
Quality Data & Reporting:
- Quality Metrics: Assist in tracking key quality metrics, preparing reports on defects, non-conformances, and quality control activities, and assisting with trend analysis to identify areas of improvement.
- Root Cause Analysis Support: Support investigations into quality issues, identifying root causes of defects, and assisting in the development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Continuous Improvement: Assist the quality team in evaluating and recommending process improvements, tools, and techniques that can enhance the overall quality of MRO operations.
Process & Procedure Assistance:
- Quality Process Support: Help maintain and improve quality assurance procedures, ensuring that all processes related to MRO activities are well-documented and followed by the team.
- Assist in Training: Help provide quality training and refresher courses to MRO technicians, ensuring they are aware of best practices, safety protocols, and the required quality standards for working on engines and components.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including production and supply chain, to ensure quality requirements are met and that the quality assurance process is integrated smoothly into the MRO workflow.
- Cross-Facility Collaboration: Work together with quality assurance personnel across all domestic and international ETI facilities, as needed, to harmonize processes.
- Customer Support: Assist in addressing quality concerns raised by customers, suppliers, or regulatory authorities, ensuring a prompt and effective response to any issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: Some experience in quality assurance or quality control in an MRO environment, ideally in aerospace or engine maintenance (experience with Rolls-Royce M250 engines is a plus). For the internal audits course, maybe we can add this note in the key responsibilities section that's talking about internal audits and end with a note similar to "Candidates having previously taken internal auditing courses will be highly considered". Since this role is still sitting under you, we can always send out for training if they don't have. I agreed that this would be an asset, but don't want to narrow the field if we make it a requirement in the posting.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Quality Assurance Knowledge: Familiarity with quality assurance principles, including, internal auditing, inspection techniques, documentation control, and root cause analysis. Candidates having previously taken internal auditing courses will be highly considered.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Awareness of Transport Canada regulations and other applicable industry standards for aerospace quality control and MRO operations. (FAA/EASA knowledge is a plus)
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to support the documentation and reporting of quality metrics, inspection results, and non-conformance issues.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiar with quality management software (e.g., Gagepack, AMOS, SAP, or similar).
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to assist in identifying issues and implementing solutions in the MRO process.
- Team-Oriented: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support colleagues in achieving quality goals.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new procedures, standards, and changing work environments, particularly in a highly regulated industry.
Working Conditions:
- Location: Based on-site at the MRO facility head office - Montreal, with some opportunities for remote coordination and potential travel to satellite facilities.
- Physical Demands: Some tasks may require standing or walking on the shop floor, and exposure to engine components.
- Schedule: Standard working hours, with occasional overtime required depending on production and quality control needs.
