Academic Management Systems is within the IT Services department, serving Faculties and Faculty Relations with systems and support for their daily business operations. We are a team of business analysts and application developers with an agile mindset and a strong focus on delivering value to improve the SFU Experience for our staff and Faculty through development of modern IT systems.
About the Role
The Quality Assurance and Testing Lead ensures the delivery of high-quality software products at SFU. The position is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive test plans, mentoring and guiding development teams, executing detailed and rigorous testing, and ultimately ensuring that all software solutions meet the highest standards for the University community. This role also applies subject matter expertise and critical thinking to develop strategic plans for designing, running and tracking testing activities and managing defect triage processes. This position engages across Information Technology Services to understand product roadmaps and backlogs, including interdependencies and impacts. Additionally, this role establishes and drives quality assurance processes, oversees integration, API, performance, and security testing, as well as collaborates with developers, product managers, and stakeholders, and advocates for quality at every stage of the software development lifecycle.
The ideal candidate has experience testing full-stack web applications and integrating them with enterprise systems. They have independently designed QA frameworks, established testing processes, and built supporting infrastructure. Proficiency in automation tools, CI/CD integration, and test strategy development is essential. The candidate brings strong problem-solving skills, collaborates across teams, and mentors others on QA practices. This role requires initiative and the ability to lead quality efforts in a complex, multi-system environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Technology Management, Software Engineering, or a related field, with seven years of experience in software quality assurance, in-depth knowledge of applications and the business requirements supporting them or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
