Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Quality, Risk & Patient Experience, this position partners with clinical and administrative leadership to enhance healthcare quality, safety, and the patient experience.

Education

The Quality Consultant will leverage expertise in quality improvement, business methodologies, education, and innovation to support programs such as:

  • Implementing unit-level quality and utilization improvements.
  • Executing goals outlined in the annual Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Reviewing quality of care cases, adverse events, and critical incidents.
  • Supporting patient experience initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with Accreditation and Patient Safety Standards.
  • Analyzing data to inform quality improvements.
  • Coaching teams on quality improvement strategies.

Mandatory Competencies

Quality & Patient Safety Performance Monitoring & Improvement

  • Supports patient safety incidents, facilitates case reviews, and promotes organizational learning using the Canadian Incident Analysis Framework.
  • Coordinates the annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) under ECFAA.
  • Analyzes clinical data and incident reports to identify patterns and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborates with Decision Support to gather data for quality and safety issues.
  • Supports the Patient Safety Dialogue process, compiling reports and analyzing trends.

Quality & Patient Safety Coordination & Collaboration

  • Champions quality improvement across the organization.
  • Coordinates and advises on quality projects related to safety, risk management, and accreditation.
  • Supports accreditation efforts, including coordination, review, and education.
  • Works with interdisciplinary teams to support patient safety efforts.
  • Supports committees and task groups with safety mandates.

Best Practice Research, Evaluation & Education

  • Ensures evidence-based decision-making tied to data.
  • Identifies and reviews best practices for policies and procedures.
  • Advances quality through consultation and education on methodologies and legislative requirements.
  • Supports implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Establishes mechanisms for monitoring quality initiatives.
  • Provides education on quality tools and methodologies (e.g., RCA, FMEA).

Corporate Projects

  • Supports projects related to quality and safety, such as document management systems and patient experience surveys.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in a regulated health discipline/profession or Business Administration; Masters preferred.
  • Regulated Health Professional (Nursing, OT, PT, Social Work, etc.) preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in healthcare setting.
  • Experience in quality improvement and risk management.
  • Certification in Patient Safety and Risk Management or Project Management training preferred.
  • LEAN training or equivalent experience is an asset.
