PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Diesel Mechanics complete preventative and scheduled maintenance on locomotives in a fast paced, safety oriented environment in compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined and excels at complex troubleshooting. The selected candidate will receive a $10,000 signing bonus for qualified Diesel Mechanics.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain, inspect, service, test and repair all systems on locomotives, mobile equipment and vehicles used in plant, yard and road service
  • Diagnose diesel engine malfunctions and make repairs within regulatory and company guidelines
  • Complete work in accordance with blueprints, schematic drawings and service manuals
  • Evaluation of parts for reuse, repair or replacement
  • Non-structural welding, adjustment and calibration to mechanical components
  • Modify and construct mechanical assemblies
  • Maintenance of low voltage repairs on locomotive electrical systems
  • Service locomotive cabs which include cleaning cab walls, locomotive toilets, windows and floors
  • Operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes, forklifts and hand tools

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver’s license, required
  • Possess one of the following: Red Seal in Heavy-Duty Mechanics, Automotive Technician, Agriculture Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Technician, Recreation Vehicle Service Technician or Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), and/or 6 years practical or general experience in mentioned applicable to the trade or possess a Unifor Local 101R card
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
  • Ability to pass the required written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, rules, regulations and other written or printed material in English
  • Ability to obtain class 3 Drivers License
  • Proven dedication to safety and ability to complete work within guidelines/rules
  • Strong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
