Job summary

BlackBerry is seeking a Technical Development Manager for QNX, a role that blends deep technical contribution with leadership in a safety-critical real-time OS environment. You will drive OSS integration, mentor engineers, and influence open-source strategy across the platform.

You will lead a team of engineers in OSS projects, define roadmaps, and collaborate with communities while shaping the developer experience for thousands of users working on QNX.

Qualifications

• Significant progressive embedded software experience including leadership/mentorship.
• Strong C/C++ for embedded systems development and hands-on RTOS experience (QNX/Linux or similar).
• Experience in device driver development and cross‑compilation tool chains.

Responsibilities

• Port and optimize open-source projects for the QNX RTOS with focus on performance and real-time behavior.
• Design integration layers, build systems, and CI/CD workflows for OSS components.
• Integrate OSS with QNX subsystems such as graphics, networking, USB, audio, and sensors.

Responsibilities include:

• Porting & optimizing open‑source projects for the QNX RTOS, ensuring performance, reliability, and real‑time behavior.
• Designing integration layers, build systems, and CI/CD workflows for open‑source components.
• Integrating OSS with QNX subsystems such as graphics, networking, USB, audio, and sensors.
• Upstreaming QNX‑relevant changes and collaborate directly with open‑source communities.
• Leading & mentoring a team of talented open‑source engineers, providing technical direction and fostering growth.
• Driving project roadmaps, define best practices, and champion open‑source adoption within QNX.
• Documenting processes & advocating for open‑source excellence across the company.

You will need:

• Significant progressive embedded s software experience, including in technical leadership/mentorship.
• Strong skills in C/C++ for embedded systems development & hands‑on RTOS development (QNX, Linux, or similar).
• Deep understanding of embedded systems, hardware architectures, and cross‑compilation tool chains.
• Experience in device driver development.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills. You will have the proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, fostering growth and accountability.
• Curiosity, enthusiasm, and interest in new technologies.

It would be great if you have:

• Linux or Android internals experience.
• Proficiency with Git, GDB, GCC, Make/CMake.
• Proven contributions to large open‑source projects.
• Familiarity with open‑source licensing models & best practices relating to community engagement.
• Strong GCC/GDB knowledge.
• Experience with Agentic AI.

Compensation Hiring Base Salary Range:

$108,750.00 - $152,250.00

The actual compensation offered will be determined at the time of hire and is contingent upon multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, and results of assessments conducted during the hiring process.
