Job summary

BlackBerry QNX seeks a Technical Development Manager with a strong background in embedded software and open-source leadership. You will mentor engineers, drive OSS integration with QNX subsystems, and guide real-time projects across graphics, networking, and sensors.

You will lead a team focused on open-source excellence, contribute to roadmaps, and collaborate with external communities while advancing safety-critical, high-performance systems.

Qualifications

  • Significant progressive embedded software experience including leadership/mentorship.
  • Strong C/C++ for embedded systems and hands-on RTOS development.
  • Deep understanding of embedded systems, hardware architectures and cross-compilation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Porting & optimizing open-source projects for the QNX RTOS with focus on real-time behavior.
  • Designing integration layers, build systems, and CI/CD workflows for OSS components.
  • Integrating OSS with QNX subsystems such as graphics, networking, USB, audio, and sensors.
  • Upstreaming QNX-relevant changes and collaborating with open-source communities.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of open-source engineers, providing technical direction and growth.
  • DrivING project roadmaps, defining best practices, and advocating open-source adoption within QNX.
  • Documenting processes and promoting open-source excellence across the company.

You will need
  • Significant progressive embedded software experience, including in technical leadership/mentorship..
  • Strong skills in C/C++ for embedded systems development & hands-on RTOS development (QNX, Linux, or similar)..
  • Deep understanding of embedded systems, hardware architectures, and cross-compilation tool chains..
  • Experience in device driver development..
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills. You will have the proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, fostering growth and accountability..
  • Curiosity, enthusiasm, and interest in new technologies..
It would be great if you have
  • Linux or Android internals experience..
  • Proficiency with Git, GDB, GCC, Make/CMake..
  • Proven contributions to large open-source projects..

Compensation Hiring Base Salary Range

$108,750.00 - $152,250.00

Please be advised that the compensation hiring range indicated herein is provided solely as a good-faith estimate of expected base compensation for the position. The actual compensation offered will be determined at the time of hire and is contingent upon multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, and results of assessments conducted during the hiring process.
