About The Role
The Quality Control Technician plays a critical role in managing product quality control and testing processes to ensure asphalt and aggregate materials meet industry standards and customer expectations. Reporting to the QC Manager, this role is responsible for conducting lab and field testing, supporting mix design development, maintaining lab certifications, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. A strong commitment to technical excellence, clear reporting, and continuous improvement is essential for success in this position.
What You'll Accomplish
- Perform testing of asphalt and aggregate materials following industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.).
- Support the design and development of asphalt mix types, including Marshall, Superpave, SMA, and OGFC.
- Assist with asphalt plant operations and mix optimization to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
- Maintain day-to-day lab operations, including calibration schedules, equipment upkeep, and inventory tracking.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all quality-related data and project test results.
- Maintain CCIL certification status of the lab and assist in preparing for audits and compliance.
- Organize and maintain clear documentation and filing systems related to testing, calibrations, and safety protocols.
- Establish and follow safe work procedures; train new staff in lab safety and quality practices.
- Collaborate with QC Manager and other business units to meet project requirements and support product performance.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
What We’re Looking For
Education: Post secondary education
Additional Education Preferred: Civil Technical Program (C.E.T), Engineering Sciences (E.I.T), or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Field of Study Preferred: Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related technical discipline
Required Work Experience: Prior experience in asphalt and aggregate testing; knowledge of CCIL certification and lab practices
Required Training/Certifications: CCIL certification (active or in progress) considered an asset
Required Technical Skills: Proficient in asphalt/aggregate lab testing, data reporting, Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint
Travel Requirements: Minimal; may include visits to plant or field sites as needed

- Maintain filing systems as required by the QC Manager
- Establish and maintain Safe Work Procedures for all equipment and tasks.
- Train new employees on safety procedures and practices, and complete trainee sign off.
- Maintain lab, building, common areas, boardroom, and supplies
- Maintenance the lab truck and track required repairs
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
