Job Summary

The Quality Control Technician 1 is a senior level testing position to the quality control aspect of materials testing, including but not limited to Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Granular Base Course (GBC), and aggregate crushing quality control to ensure the characteristics of the materials meet or exceed the standards and specifications of our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform testing in accordance with Standard General’s Quality Control System.
  2. Read and understand test methods and procedures.
  3. Communicate with clients, including operations personnel.
  4. Troubleshoot and make recommendations to maintain high quality product.
  5. Analyze test data and take corrective action to prevent non-conforming products.
  6. Document and control data.
  7. Care for and maintain testing equipment.
  8. Maintain company image (i.e. company equipment, proper personal image).
  9. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Certifications:

  1. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  2. Background in Civil Engineering Technology or related civil experience is preferred.
  3. CET or similar education is required.
  4. TDG, emergency first aid, and other safety classes required, can also be attained later.
  5. Alberta transportation experience is considered an asset.
  6. Valid driver’s license (Class 5).
  7. Own transportation.

Work Experience:

  1. 7-12 years minimum experience in construction materials testing.
  2. Must have a good understanding of construction methods, materials, scheduling, and blueprint reading.

Technical Skills:

  1. Must have a good understanding of mathematics.
  2. Must have good computer skills.
  3. Ability to use Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions

  1. Overtime as required.
  2. Ability to work a 12 hour day.
  3. Must have the ability to work at heights.
  4. Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, grease, fumes, odors, oil, asphalt, and toxic and flammable substances.
  5. Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  6. Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 90 lbs on a regular basis.
  7. Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  8. Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol policy, including testing requirements.
  9. Must comply with all company policies.
