Job Description

The QA Specialist II is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the VSL quality management system; this includes ongoing assessment to ensure that it continues to meet the objectives of both the Seaspan Shipyards Quality Policy and Quality Management System manual and works to address identified deficiencies. This position reports to the Manager, Quality Assurance.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinates and maintains the quality management system within Victoria Shipyards by monitoring, reporting, and administering actions which prevent non-conformities.
  • Tracks and verifies corrective actions and reports on the performance of the quality system to Quality Management and the appropriate corporate group.
  • Assesses non-conformances and coordinates with Shipyard personnel to correct the process or amend procedures to correct any non-conformity.
  • Assists in maintaining the quality management system in a manner consistent with the quality management system manual and communicates the requirements and procedures to all employees.
  • Conducts internal audits (e.g. Process, Subcontractor, etc.).
  • Conducts quality assurance inspections and monitors performance tests, documents results, and is responsible for the preservation of data.
  • Maintains Procedures, Work Instructions and Forms as well as Quality Assurance documentation and records related to specific projects.
  • Oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Quality Assurance activities, collaborating with various trades across the shipyard to ensure compliance with quality standards and project requirements. As directed, provides coordinating support for Shipyards core processes.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Quality Management Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Internal auditing experience is an asset.
  • Shipbuilding or related trades experience is an asset.

  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 9001.
  • Knowledge of VSL Quality Assurance policies and procedures is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Power BI and Intelex is an asset.
  • Written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

  • Initiative, active listening skills, and action/result-oriented nature.
  • Ability to collaborate with teams and focus people’s energy and attention on bringing various priorities together to achieve set goals and objectives.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience, as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
