Job description

On behalf of our Public Sector Client, Ignite Technical Resources is recruiting for a QA Functional and Regression Tester to join our Client's team on a contract basis. This role is Hybrid, and the Client is based in Burnaby, BC.
Summary of the Role

The QA Functional and Regression Tester will be responsible for planning and executing testing activities to validate software functionality and system integration. This includes designing and executing both manual and automated test cases, identifying defects, and collaborating across departments to ensure thorough testing coverage in line with business and user requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and perform testing of software/firmware changes to meet functional and regression testing goals.
  2. Create and manage detailed test plans and test cases aligned with business workflows and system requirements.
  3. Execute test cases, validate results, and document test progress and outcomes.
  4. Analyze and report software defects, providing clear reproduction steps and supporting troubleshooting efforts.
  5. Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and technical teams to review requirements and refine test strategies.
Core Requirements:
  1. Minimum six (6) years of functional and regression testing experience, ideally in smart metering or energy/utility projects.
  2. Proven experience creating test plans and comprehensive test cases.
  3. Strong understanding of software development methodologies and quality processes.
  4. Proficient in using test management and defect tracking tools.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  2. Familiarity with HP ALM/HPQC, JIRA, and experience with Oracle, SQL Server, and MS Access.
  3. Proficiency in HTML, XML, and SQL scripting.
  4. ISTQB Certification preferred.
  5. Experience testing SAP applications and using Tricentis Quality Centre is an asset.
Terms

This is a 1-year contract role ending June 3, 2026. The position follows a hybrid model, requiring three days onsite at the Client’s Edmonds, Burnaby location. Candidates must undergo reference and background checks prior to receiving an offer.
