Hatch Ltd. in Mississauga is seeking a Pyrometallurgy Co-op Student to contribute to global mining, energy and infrastructure projects. You will apply problem-solving within a multidisciplinary engineering team and assist with process modelling, data analysis and site work.

Qualifications

  • Must be working towards graduating in 2028 with an Engineering degree specialization (Materials/Metallurgical/Chemical).
  • Strong academic record (top quintile).
  • Ability to evaluate metallurgical processes via high-temperature chemistry, heat/mass transfer, kinetics and thermodynamics for modeling and design.
  • Ability to program in popular languages for data processing or numerical models.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills for team/client explanation.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Applying problem solving skills to complete project work.

  • Assist with metals projects, including critical metals for battery manufacturing.
  • Assist with decarbonization projects to apply innovative tech and reduce emissions.
  • Assist with developing process control, simulation, automation, prediction and operation models, with emphasis on big-data and machine learning.
  • Assist with interpretation of simulation and field data and developing test work programs.
  • Assist with engineering documents and calculations (mass/energy balances, design criteria, reports, facility layout, hazard studies, cost estimation).
  • Assist with project management within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Assist with analysis of on-site data and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with metal industry decarbonization projects to apply innovative technologies and approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Assist with developing process control, simulation, automation, prediction and operation models, with emphasis on big-data and machine learning.
  • Assist with interpretation of simulation and field data as well as developing test work programs.
  • Assist with preparation of engineering documents and calculations, such as mass and energy balances, design criteria, engineering reports, process facility layout, hazard studies, cost estimation, etc.
  • Assist with project management within the scope, schedule, and budget provided by the process engineers and project managers.
  • Assist with analysis of on-site data and reporting.
Education and Experience:
  • You must be working towards graduating in 2028, with an Engineering degree with a Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering specialization.
  • Strong academic record (top quintile).
  • Ability to evaluate ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgical processes by applying concepts of high-temperature chemistry, heat and mass transfer, kinetics and thermodynamics to assist in the modeling and design of process plants.
  • Ability to program in popular languages for data processing and/or to develop numerical models for metallurgical processes.
  • Ability to effectively utilize written and oral communication skills to describe, depict and explain their work to team members and clients.
  • Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Compensation:

Range: $26.00 - $33.00

At Hatch, we are c00 - $84,000.00ommitted to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location. In addition to base pay, our total rewards package may include performance-based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs designed to support your well-being and growth.
