Job summary

Canadian Babbitt Bearings Ltd. (CBB) is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to support manufacturing operations by sourcing materials, equipment, services, and consumables needed to meet customer delivery commitments.

You will work closely with production, engineering, quality, inventory control, and operations to ensure materials are procured in accordance with customer requirements, budget expectations, and production schedules, while maintaining supplier performance and cost

Qualifications

• College diploma in SCM or related discipline.
• SCMP designation is an asset.
• 3–5 years of purchasing, procurement, planning, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Responsibilities

• Source raw materials, subcontracted services, tooling, consumables, and production supplies.
• Issue and manage purchase orders through Business Central ERP.
• Obtain quotations, evaluate supplier pricing, and negotiate favorable terms.
• Monitor open purchase orders and expedite deliveries to support production schedules.
• Resolve supplier delivery issues, shortages, pricing discrepancies, and invoice concerns.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures and approval requirements.
• Maintain and develop relationships with approved suppliers and service providers.
• Track supplier performance metrics including On-Time Delivery, Quality Performance, Responsiveness, and Cost Competitiveness.
• Assist in supplier audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor inventory levels and reorder points; collaborate with planning and production teams to ensure material availability.
• Identify inventory shortages and develop mitigation plans; support forecasting activities and long-lead material planning.
• Review procurement requirements to ensure materials meet customer and engineering specifications.
• Verify supplier certifications, material test reports, and quality documentation.
• Ensure ISO 9001 compliance and traceability for regulated components.
• Assist Accounts Payable with resolving purchasing-related invoice discrepancies.

(CBB) is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Agent to support our manufacturing operations by sourcing materials, equipment, subcontracted services, and consumables required to meet customer delivery commitments. The Purchasing Agent plays a critical role in supplier management, inventory control, cost containment, quality compliance, and operational efficiency.

Working closely with Production, Technical Advisors, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Inventory Control, and Operations, the Purchasing Agent ensures that materials and services are procured in accordance with customer requirements, quality standards, budget expectations, and production schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Procurement

• Source raw materials, subcontracted services, tooling, consumables, and production supplies.
• Issue and manage purchase orders through Business Central ERP.
• Obtain quotations, evaluate supplier pricing, and negotiate favorable commercial terms.
• Monitor open purchase orders and expedite deliveries to support production schedules.
• Resolve supplier delivery issues, shortages, pricing discrepancies, and invoice concerns.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures and approval requirements.

Supplier Management

• Maintain and develop relationships with approved suppliers and service providers.
• Support supplier qualification, evaluation, and performance monitoring activities.
• Assist in maintaining Approved Vendor Lists (AVL).
• Track supplier performance metrics including:
• On-Time Delivery (OTD)
• Quality Performance
• Responsiveness
• Cost Competitiveness
• Participate in supplier audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Inventory & Planning Support

• Monitor inventory levels and reorder points.
• Collaborate with planning and production teams to ensure material availability.
• Identify inventory shortages and develop mitigation plans.
• Assist with cycle counts and inventory accuracy initiatives.
• Support forecasting activities and long-lead material planning.

Quality & Compliance

• Review procurement requirements to ensure materials and services meet customer and engineering specifications.
• Verify supplier certifications, material test reports, and quality documentation.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
• Support traceability requirements for regulated and critical components.
• Assist with corrective actions related to supplier quality issues.

ERP & Administrative Functions

• Maintain accurate purchasing records within Business Central.
• Update supplier information, pricing, lead times, and procurement data.
• Support reporting activities related to purchasing performance and inventory management.
• Assist Accounts Payable with resolving purchasing-related invoice discrepancies.
• Prepare purchasing reports, supplier analyses, and spend summaries as required.

Qualifications

Education

• College diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
• SCMP designation or working toward certification is considered an asset.

Experience

• 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, planning, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience purchasing metals, castings, machined components, industrial services, or manufacturing consumables is considered a strong asset.
• Experience working within an ERP system, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

• Strong understanding of purchasing and supplier management principles.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams, and ERP software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
