Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Purchaser to work out of our mill site near Athabasca, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing materials, parts, supplies, equipment, and services by following established purchasing policies and procedures while optimizing price, delivery, and terms. The Purchaser is responsible for contract administration and supplier relationships.

Role Responsibilities
Procurement
- Achieve specific procurement goals within area of responsibility.
- Streamlining and improvement of established procurement procedures.
Business and Contract Requirements
- Identify business and contract requirements.
- Write specifications for a small portfolio or area of the business for existing contracts and/or new contracts.
Contract Management
- Deliver required outcomes by coordinating activities of subcontractors and suppliers and acting as a primary point of contact for them while working within an established contract management plan.
Supplier Evaluation & Performance
- Source and evaluate new suppliers.
- Evaluate existing supplier performance to reduce costs.
- Improve delivery, times, method and costs.
- Alleviate risks and drive continuous improvement.
Data Collection & Analysis
- Collate and analyse data using a variety of tools, methods, and formats.
Document Preparation
- Organize and prepare complex documents using a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Office and Adobe.
- Gathering and summarizing of data for special reports.
Role Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Business, and/or Supply Chain Management.
- 3 - 5 + Years’ experience in manufacturing, forestry, transportation, logistics, Customer Service, or Procurement /Supply Chain Management.
- Experience in inventory planning / management, supply chain concepts, and related methodologies is considered an asset.
- Experience in contract and competitive bid legislate is considered an asset.
- Proven multi-tasking skills to handle multiple concurrent work items in dynamic environment, under tight deadlines and requirements; strong decision-making skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong understanding of materials and services procurement as well as contracting and contract deliverables.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
Other
- Understand Business Requirements & Risk – Understand and balance requests for materials and services, examine the needs of the business (including risk assessment) and ensure fulfilment in accordance with the Supply Chain Management operational model.
- Supply Chain Acumen – Knowledge and understanding of provincial, national and international supply chains: including, but not limited to carriers such as railways, trucking, and shipping.
- Negotiation - Uses comprehensive knowledge and skills to negotiate independently while providing guidance and training to others on how to help the organization by obtaining consensus between two or more internal or external parties who may have different interests.
- Collaboration – Represent supply chain in cross-functional teams to provide knowledge and input to help formulate contract strategies and execution.
- Alignment – Ensure all procurement activities are aligned with the purchasing strategy and procurement plan.
- Drive improvement – Implement continuous improvement opportunities to drive value for SCM and the overall project team.
- Time Management – Ensure all business needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
- Computer Skills – Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
