The Opportunity

Aecon Industrial provides a complete range of services to the oil & gas, petrochemical, pulp & paper, mining, and power generation sectors. Reporting to the Procurement Director, the Purchaser is responsible for providing purchasing support for Aecon Industrial to achieve its procurement objectives.

What You'll Do Here

  1. Purchase materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and services of a routine nature, within established limits and quality, quantity, and price guidelines; items are generally readily available.
  2. Assess company requirements and determine specifications for items to be purchased.
  3. Source/research materials for price and quality.
  4. Provide pricing for estimates and assist with closing estimates.
  5. Coordinate delivery and expediting of goods.
  6. Invite tenders; consult with suppliers and review quotations.
  7. Select vendors, place orders, and maintain records.
  8. Establish and maintain contact with suppliers.
  9. Meet with manufacturing representatives to keep current on new products and their uses.
  10. Determine and negotiate contract terms and conditions, recommending contract awards.
  11. Source vendors and subcontractors, determine interest, and ensure they meet or exceed the minimum EHS, quality and financial requirements of Aecon and the Client.
  12. Conduct all aspects of the competitive bidding process including assembling bidders lists and packages, issuing, receiving, opening, evaluating, recommending, awarding, and documenting.
  13. Gather and negotiate pricing and exceptions to the standard terms and conditions.
What You Bring To The Team

  1. Completion of post-secondary education.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience within a purchasing department.
  3. At least two (2) years of experience within an industrial or commercial construction procurement department.
  4. Completion of the P.M.A.C. Purchasing Certificate program or enrolment in the SCMP Accreditation Program and/or trade certification related to position specialization desired.
  5. Understanding of purchasing principles, techniques, practices, and ethics.
  6. An understanding of the tools of procurement.
  7. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and consumable materials.
  8. Proven organizational skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a fast-paced work environment.
  9. Service orientation and ability to work effectively with a team environment.
  10. Ability to build positive working relationships with professionals within the industry and internal clients.
  11. Strong negotiation skills.
  12. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  13. Solid research skills and commitment to continually learn about new products.
  14. Attention to detail, mathematical and analytical skills.
  15. Proficiency using Microsoft.
