Position Summary

NCC is looking for an individual with experience managing federal funding programs or grants, and with the skillset to design, implement, report and monitor such programs. The full-time Public Sector Partnership Manager contract position will play a pivotal role in supporting NCC’s public sector program commitments (e.g. Natural Areas Conservation Program, North American Wetland Conservation Act, Landscape Resiliency Program). This dynamic position, reporting to the Director of Funding Management Programs within the Office of Vice President of Operations (OVPO) department, will oversee the development and submission of proposals or letters of intent to public sector programs, the operationalization of programs within NCC, tracking and reporting on delivery, and the ongoing monitoring of compliance with regards to our public sector grant agreements. Additionally, it’s possible this position could have at least one direct report (a program coordinator). The ideal candidate will balance strategic vision and operational detail while working collaboratively with key partners and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordination and development of applications/proposals;
  • Managing and coordinating the drafting of a public sector grant agreements, with support from legal, finance, and other operating units;
  • Primary liaison with key partners and/or stakeholders, including potential travel to meet with in-person or attend important partner meetings;
  • Program administration, design, strategizing, and implementation; the operationalization of the program internally across NCC;
  • On-going tracking of grant deliverables, such as spending, matching contributions, and modifications, and the preparation and submission of annual and final reports for all grant / programs;
  • If necessary, representing NCC on various external or internal committees in support of grant delivery;
  • Supporting and making recommendations to the Director with regards to the negotiation of public sector funds between partners or other grantees;
  • Ensuring that central business units and operating units are set up for success with regards to grant/program, ensuring that NCC works in compliance with program parameters, agreements and/or standards;
  • Coordinate and liaison with internal staff with regards to delivery of the program, such as regional operating units, finance, and marketing and development, etc;
  • The ability to analyze and summarizing key information, and make recommendations to senior leadership upon request;
  • The delivery of other reports and ad-hoc requests related to funding program management.
  • If necessary, ad-hoc support for other programs within the Funding Program Management Team and/or support for other general department-wide projects.

Skills

Position Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively manage diverse stakeholders and foster a collaborative environment
  • Must be able to travel a few times a year cross-Canada or/and U.S for proposal presentations and other key partner meetings;
  • Proficiency in data management tools, including intermediate skillset in MS Excel (pivot tables, formulas, linked worksheets) and some experience with PowerBI or similar platforms for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Project management experience, including the timely delivery of milestones and adherence to financial and programmatic commitments
  • Well-developed communication skills (presentation, written, verbal, listening)
  • Problem-solving skillset: the ability to use sound judgment to make decisions and effectively manage;
  • Adaptability and the ability to pivot quickly in response to changing program needs, priorities, and external conditions, while maintaining focus on long-term conservation goals and NCC’s conservation direction
  • A basic understanding of conservation science: species at risk, waterfowl and wetland ecosystems, nature smart solutions, including current trends and challenges in the field of protected and conserved areas;
  • Basic knowledge of accounting;
  • Knowledge and experience the following would be considered an asset: PowerBI, FE (Financial Edge), Grant Solutions, and French language.

Experience Required

  • Post-secondary degree;
  • Practical experience in a conservation organization with particular emphasis on complex, inter-departmental funding administration, conservation data management, financial data management and analysis;
  • French language is an asset;
  • Experience managing direct report(s) is an asset.
