The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Come work as a Public Health Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)! Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Vancouver, BC, as a Public Health Nurse. Apply today to be part of our team!

As a Public Health Nurse focused on public health, your responsibilities will include:

  • Utilizing public health nursing knowledge to promote and protect health, well-being, and safety for the designated client population through targeted programs, focusing on services to prenatal, infants, and toddlers aged 0-5 years and their families.
  • Providing a continuum of services including prevention, health promotion, and early intervention in community settings, using an equity-based approach to support population health and address social determinants of health, especially in equity-deserving populations.
  • Establishing and maintaining interdisciplinary and community relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Identifying individual, community, or systemic needs and determining appropriate interventions such as screening, assessment, referral, advocacy, surveillance, education, and responding to emerging public health issues.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of relevant specialty nursing certifications (e.g., breast/chest feeding education, immunization competency) and at least two years of recent public health nursing experience related to the designated population, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for work purposes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of public health nursing practices and theories.
  • Knowledge of community development, health promotion, and evidence-based nursing practices related to growth, development, screening, and referral processes.
  • Understanding of communicable disease control, immunization, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and culturally safe practices, including Indigenous cultural safety.
  • Effective communication skills, ability to collaborate with diverse populations and team members, and experience in counseling, teaching, and facilitating groups.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapt to unexpected events, and participate in research activities.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties required and proficiency with related equipment and software.

The work hours and locations may change based on operational needs and collective agreement provisions. All healthcare workers in publicly-funded facilities are required to report vaccination history for safety and outbreak management. New hires will need to provide this information during onboarding.
