Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Public Health Mobile Unit Driver to operate mobile clinics across the province. The role includes transporting vaccines and specimens, assisting clients, and supporting clinic setup and teardown with strict IPAC guidelines.

The position is casual relief (3%) in the Eastern Zone with travel across Nova Scotia as required. Valid NS Class 5 license with clean abstract is essential; defensive driving is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education is required.
  • Must hold a Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving abstract in the past five years.
  • Defensive driving course is an asset.
  • Familiarity with vehicles used and their operation.
  • Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Ground is an asset.
  • Ability to work safely in noisy, dusty, or congested conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Public Health Mobile Unit vans and support clinic setup/tear down.
  • Assist clients, deliver supplies, equipment, vaccines, and specimens.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies; perform post-immunization observation.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance and report issues; travel across Nova Scotia as needed.
  • Follow Infection Prevention and Control guidelines.

About the Opportunity

The Public Health Mobile Unit (PHMU) Driver is part of the collaborative health care team, responsible for the safe operation of the service provision vans. The role may include assisting clients, delivery of supplies, equipment, vaccines, and specimens, set up and tear down of clinic and workspaces, following Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) guidelines, prepare and maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies, provide post-immunization observation, monitor, and support vehicle maintenance, as well as other support functions. The PHMU Driver is a provincial role thus travel across Nova Scotia may be required.

The Public Health Mobile Unit (PHMU) is a collaborative team of healthcare professionals who travel across the province to support a wide range of Public Health initiatives, like vaccination programs, testing for communicable diseases, responding to public health emergencies, and health system navigation. PHMU does this by delivering community-based clinics, working closely with partners and reaching people who face structural, systemic or geographical barriers to accessing healthcare.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12
  • Must have a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license with minimum 5 years driving experience with a clean driving abstract with the past five years
  • Completion of a defensive driving course is an asset
  • Familiarity with vehicles used and their operation
  • Trained in “Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Ground” an asset
  • Must be able to work in an environment that is at times, adverse. For example, noise; dust and fumes may be present. May be exposed to prevailingweather conditions and congested traffic.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent must exercise care and judgement, with priorities being safety, courtesy, and common driving sense.
  • Ability to work independently and function as part of a team
  • Customer-focused, comfortable with diverse communities
  • Ability to work and adapt in a constantly changing environment, which includes receiving work assignments at short notice within a variety of settings

Compensation and Benefits

$23.07 - $25.16 Hourly
