Alberta Health Services is seeking a Public Health Inspector II Land Use Specialist to oversee land use applications and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with environmental health standards. This role demands a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and strong communication skills. The Public Health Inspector II Land Use Specialist will show proficiency in reviewing and responding to land use applications, identifying any potential nuisance conditions and applying a Healthy Communities by Design lens where applicable. The role will involve an understanding of contaminated sites, different types of development and areas where environmental health can provide advocacy for healthy community development. The Public Health Inspector II Land Use Specialist is expected to work well with existing external contacts and strengthen relationships with new contacts. In addition to managing the land use portfolio, the successful candidate will be expected to manage a district and conduct inspections across all environmental public health program areas in a busy suburban location.
Description:As a Public Health Inspector II and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental public health program. As a Public Health Inspector II, you will have advanced technical expertise in the areas of public health epidemiology, environmental science and engineering, and scientific research. In addition to the duties required for the enforcement of the Public Health Act, you will act as a zone lead responsible for specialized technical advice and services in one or more of the environmental public health service delivery areas on a zone/provincial basis. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations.
Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
Additional Required Qualifications:Previous experience with land use applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
