Job summary

MDPI Canada seeks a Public Affairs Lead, North America to develop and execute public affairs strategies across key North American markets from its Toronto office, within the Communications and Marketing department.

The role includes advising executives on political, policy, and reputational risks, coordinating campaigns, and mentoring the North American public affairs team while aligning external activities with MDPI’s brand and open access advocacy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2–5 years in Public Affairs.
  • 2–5 years in team management.
  • Less than 2 years in public affairs agency work required.
  • 2–5 years in publishing.
  • Excellent English language proficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive approach and willingness to contribute.
  • Resilience and the ability to work effectively in a changing environment.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of MDPI’s public affairs strategy across North America.
  • Advise the executive team on political, policy, and reputational risks and opportunities.
  • Provide advisory-level support to Europe and APAC as required.
  • Oversee materials including policy briefings, internal intelligence, and open access policy advocacy.
  • Plan and execute public affairs campaigns around priority issues for MDPI.
  • Manage North American public affairs team and mentoring.
  • Coordinate public affairs agencies, budget, and performance management.
  • Evaluate strategy based on impact and evolving policy landscape.
  • Ensure External Affairs activities align with MDPI’s brand and standards.
