Job summary

The Wikwemikong Health Centre is seeking a Psychologist to provide comprehensive psychological assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning for community members in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory. You will deliver culturally safe, wholistic services to children, youth, and families and oversee care from referral to discharge.

Responsibilities include crisis intervention, reporting, collaboration with health teams, and referrals to traditional healing and community programs.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Psychology and registration (or eligibility) with the College of Psychologists and Behavioral Analysts of Ontario.
• Experience working in Indigenous communities.
• Minimum three years of clinical experience.
• Experience with psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

Psychologist

Summary

Under the direction and accountability to the Wikwemikong Health Centre, the Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions for community members within Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory. The role also includes consultation services related to behavioral assessments and evidence-based interventions for community programs.

The primary responsibility is to deliver accessible, culturally safe, and wholistic psychological services to children, youth, and their families in alignment with the vision, mission, and core values of the Wikwemikong Health Centre. The Psychologist will oversee the continuum of care from referral to discharge, ensuring integrated and coordinated services for all assigned clients.

This position requires collaboration with health team members, community service providers, and families to support mental wellness and positive developmental outcomes.

Responsibilities

Administrative and Professional Practice

• Complete all charting and data entry within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used by Wikwemikong Health Centre.
• Maintain active membership and compliance with the standards of the College of Psychologists & Behavior Analysts of Ontario.
• Work collaboratively within a circle of care with internal teams, affiliated organizations, and external health and mental health providers.

Clinical Services for Community Members

• Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning for community members.
• Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions for individuals and families, incorporating culturally appropriate approaches.
• Identify cases requiring specialized or intensive services and make appropriate referrals.
• Develop treatment plans for complex cases and provide clinical expertise during team meetings.
• Prepare psychological reports, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure confidentiality.
• Recommend and facilitate access to alternative services, including traditional healing and cultural programming.
• Advocate for clients and collaborate with community resources.
• Report disclosures of abuse immediately to the Manager in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
• Respond promptly to crises, including assessing and managing high-risk behaviors such as self-harm or suicidal ideation.

Mental Health Awareness and Community Engagement

• Promote mental wellness and healthy lifestyles through education, outreach, and liaison activities.
• Deliver culturally appropriate mental health education and prevention programs for individuals and families.
• Provide public education on mental health issues in age-appropriate and culturally sensitive ways.
• Offer consultation and information to other agencies and community members regarding child and youth mental health.

Quality Improvement and Personal Growth

• Comply with relevant legislation, standards, and organizational policies.
• Recommend improvements to enhance mental health services for Anishinabek children and families.
• Ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and security of all mental health records.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Psychology and registration (or eligibility for registration) with the College of Psychologists and Behavioral Analysts of Ontario
• Experience with working in Indigenous Communities or with Indigenous Peoples.
• Minimum three years of clinical experience.
• Experience in psychological assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions.
• Valid Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
