Health PEI seeks a Mental Health & Substance Use Clinician (Psychologist L19) to provide assessment, case management and treatment for adults, children and families with mental health and substance use concerns.

The role requires a Master’s in psychology and eligibility for registration, offering collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, crisis intervention, and evidence-based therapies (CBT/DBT).

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Mental Health & Substance Use Clinician (Psychologist L19) position provides assessment, case management, consultation, and treatment to a wide variety of clients (i.e., adults, children, and families) with mental health and subtance use concerns and illnesses. The Mental Health and Susbtance Use Clinician provides assessment, ongoing and stabilizing treatment, coordination of resources and consultation to clients, their families, and partners of care. The MHSU Clincian operates with a high degree of autonomy and independence and will work as a collaborative member of the Clinical Services Team.

Duties will Include:

• Utilize and apply extensive knowledge of case management principles, psychosocial rehabilitation, cognitive, behavioral, dialectical behavioral therapy, supportive, family and group therapy, discern which approaches are best suited to the situation and clinical impression;


• Use substantive knowledge of numerous areas including, mental illness, cognitive functioning, medical co-morbidity, and substance use and gambling, analyze and interpret the information to formulate clinical impressions and develop treatment plans.


• Respond to emergency calls and walk-in clients; intake screening of new referrals for service; determine intervention required while taking into consideration the degree of risk to client and/or others, provide specific evidence-based treatment modalities such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, FBT,etc;;


• Be skilled in crisis intervention, safety planning, problem solving, and other brief action-based methods of intervention with clients who present or call in distress;


• Gather information from interviews with the client, family and other professional involved (physicians, community partners, caregivers, etc.) where appropriate;


• Assessment of the presenting problem, set appropriate goals, select treatment options, provide relevant interventions, monitoring feedback, and adjust treatment, as required;


• Support CMH&A through front-line committee involvement, quality initiatives, and service reviews;


• Provide technical direction to make treatment recommendations to the interdisciplinary team and collaborating agencies such as Child and Family Services, Probations, Student Wellbeing Team, etc;


• Contribute to the interdisciplinary and collaborative health care team through effective communication, efficient time management skills, working to full scope, and maintaining professional and respectful relationships with staff, clients, and partners in care;


• Maintaining appropriate records and case recording as part of the case management process according to documentation standards and Health PEI policies;


• Liaise and consult with other mental health and addictions services, physicians, health care professionals, and community partners/external agencies to promote access to resources that can optimize health outcomes and/or coordinate treatment plans;


• Providing Open Access Counselling services;


• Efficiently and accurately assess the person and situation to determine the potential level of risk;


• Facilitate group programing.


• Other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in psychology and be eligible for registration as a psychologist with the PEI Psychologists Registration Board; where currently registered, must be a member in good standing.


• Considerable clinical mental health and substance use experience.


• Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders 5 and other relevant Federal and Provincial statutes and acts.


• Experience and training in individual, family and group therapy.


• Good communication skills both orally and in writing.


• Must be able to provide own transportation with mileage reimbursement as per collective agreement


• The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:

• Experience working with clients with complex needs, chronic illness, mental illness, substance use/addiction, and concurrent disorders.


• Relevant trainings such as: Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, Group Facilitation, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training, Suicide Risk Assessment training, and Violence Risk Assessment training.


• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams; program and community development; and case management


• Must demonstrate critical thinking skills, clinical judgement, and independent decision-making skills in order to develop, monitor and implement care plans


• Excellent written and oral communication skills, conflict resolution skills, ability to handle crisis situations, and capability to lead, as appropriate, group therapy sessions


• Must have the ability to work effectively as a reliable member of a team and work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to a changing and evolving environment


• The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to beginning employment.

Salary Range: $50.28 - $61.79 per hour (Psychologist L19C)
