About you

Exciting opportunities are available for qualified Psychiatrists (Senior Medical Officers) who want to make a positive impact while working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and supportive team. We are looking for Psychiatrists who are passionate about delivering quality care to our patients.

In New Zealand, Psychiatry is generally practised as a hybrid of primary and secondary care specialty, based either in an inpatient unit or in specialist community mental health teams (CMHTs). We're recruiting for all areas of speciality across the country; however, some of our most in-demand subspecialties include:

  • Adult Community
  • Child and Adolescent
  • Early Psychosis Intervention
  • Forensic
  • Mental Health for the Elderly
  • Maternal Mental Health
  • Intellectual Disability

To work as a Psychiatrist (Senior Medical Officer) in New Zealand, you must become registered to practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Practitioners must meet competency standards and hold Annual Practising Certificates (APCs) to work safely and effectively.

Salary and benefits

Senior Medical Officers receive 6 weeks of annual leave and 12 paid public holidays, giving you time to explore our beautiful country and raise a family in our diverse communities. Along with your base salary as a Senior Medical Officer, you will have an annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance of EUR €8,400 (NZ $16,000) (pro-rated for part-time employees), reimbursement of your registration and practising certificate fees, and your professional indemnity insurance is covered by Health New Zealand.

Senior Medical Officers receive a base salary relative to their level of experience:

  • Medical Officers annual salaries range EUR €75K - EUR €110K (NZ $142K - NZ $210K) plus allowances.
  • Medical Specialists annual salaries range EUR €97K - EUR €140K (NZ $185K - NZ $267K) plus allowances.

Additional allowances are paid on top of base salary and vary due to location and service.
