Job description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend as a physician or consultant to ambulatory patients in the Operational Stress Injury Clinic.
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments, order and ensure appropriate psychosocial, laboratory investigations, and pharmacological & psychosocial interventions as per current standards.
  • Participate in a psychiatry on-call schedule as required within the clinical program unless exempted.
  • Provide short-term coverage for other services during holidays or staff illnesses.
  • Experience working with police, Canadian Forces members, and Veterans with operational stress injuries, including trauma-related anxiety, mood, and substance use, is an asset.

Clinical Duties

  • Follow directives from the Clinical Director and adhere to Veterans Affairs Canada Standards for OSI Clinics.
  • Provide clinical direct and indirect care within an interdisciplinary OSI service delivery model.
  • Maintain OSI-specific workload measurement, outcome monitoring, and data collection (e.g., RAI).
  • Conduct clinical desk-side teaching and didactic education.
  • Handle clinical administration tasks.
  • Participate in on-call services.
  • Supervise junior staff, including residents and clinical clerks.
  • Support and potentially conduct research as needed.

Educational Duties

Deliver didactic teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education levels in coordination with the Director of Education, Department of Psychiatry.

Research

Research and scholarly activities are encouraged. Candidates with a strong research background may be eligible for protected research time, subject to departmental agreements.

Qualifications: Eligibility

Fellowship in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.

FTE Details

0.8 FTE clinical work and 0.2 FTE academic work (including 0.1 FTE teaching and 0.1 FTE other academic activities).
