Job description

Position Overview

Calian Health is inviting expressions of interest from psychiatrists in the Kingston area for a new opportunity. As a psychiatrist you would be responsible to provide and actively participate in the coordination of essential mental health services to offenders at the Regional Treatment Centre (RTC). The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Responsibilities

These services include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assess and treat individual offenders.
  • Participate in discharge and release planning as requested.
  • Develop care plans and discharge summaries in accordance with mental health service delivery guidelines.
  • Provide consultation to other health care providers to ensure continuity of care. This includes providing consultation to community mental health service providers and the prescribing physician if the offender is residing in the community.
  • Provide consultation and advice on mental health services to the mental health team and institutional management as requested.
  • Provide educational sessions as requested.
  • Participate in meetings including Health Professional Advisory Committees, case conferences and other related activities as requested.
  • Participate in training, including orientation and risk assessment training as requested.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the efficiency, quality and delivery of services, including, but not limited to, participation in medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews and incident report reviews as well as the Accreditation process.
  • Provide consultation services for the resolution of internal offender grievance and investigative processes as requested.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of six (6) months experience as a psychiatrist providing psychiatric care within the last two (2) years.
  • Current license in good standing to practise psychiatry from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • Must have successfully completed speciality training in psychiatry through a program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain or currently possessing a Reliability Security Clearance
  • Two professional references
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for Maintenance of Competence set by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
