In accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values, and strategic directions of Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient & staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement in quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the general supervision of a senior position such as an Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse, or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, the Psychiatric Mental Health Assistant assists with the provision of activation and socialization services for mental health patients in the acute care or tertiary care setting. The role includes providing personal care assistance and supporting services to the patient/client and interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience

Grade 10 and completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant Program, plus two (2) years' recent, related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
