This is a shared position between SOGH and Concordia Hospital.Travel between sites mid way through shift is required. Successful candidate must have transportation, km's are compensated.

Position Overview
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years recent acute mental health experience required.
  • Previous experience in an Urgent Care/ Emergency Department preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence in:
    • Psychiatric assessment within a biopsychosocial framework.
    • Crisis intervention.
    • Therapeutic communication.
    • Co-occurring disorders.
    • Teaching skills and abilities working with clients and families; and;
    • Supporting and educating colleagues in providing mental healthcare.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing required.
  • BScMH, BScPN or BN preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) required.
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

    • Engage clients using Recovery-oriented practice, and;
    • Participate and conduct Critical Incident Stress Management Program (CISM).
    • Demonstrated effective organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Demonstrated basic computer skills and ability to utilize relevant Emergency Department computer systems.
  • Knowledge of:
    • College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses/Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses.
    • College of Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses.
    • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
    • Scope of practice as documented in the Registered Nurses Act (Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act for RPNs in Mental Health).
    • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) for Registered Nurses.
    • Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
    • Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.
    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
    • Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.

Physical Requirements
  • Required physical and psychological health to perform the duties of the position.
  • Access to and use of a reliable motor vehicle during working hours & suitable for all environmental conditions.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba class 5 driver’s license required.
  • Will be required to travel between the Seven Oaks and Concordia sites.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
