Salary: Rate starts at $30dependingonexperience
The PSW/HSW Instructor will support the Lead Instructor and Program Manager to oversee and be responsible for all academics, compliance, and course management of the PSW/HSW programs; assist with recruitment where applicable; and support any other activities or projects for OIEG North America as assigned.
This is a hybrid position. The instructor will need to be both on campus and online, depending on the teaching and school requirements.
Main Duties and responsibilities
General
- Uphold Oxford International rules, regulations, policies, procedures and standards at all times
- Assist the directors with the day-to-day operations of Oxford International
- Assist with administrative functions outside of the realm of education delivery when necessary
- Maintain current knowledge and skills as they relate to industry trends, issues, programs, etc.
- Ensure all correspondence receives a response within one business day
- Cooperate with other staff to meet goals and deadlines outside of this job description
PSW Operations - General
- Ensure successful day-to-day operations and delivery of the PSW/HSW program
- Ensure all inquiries/emails receive a response within one business day
- Ensure the premises are maintained in accordance with Oxford International Quality Standards; tidy and clutter free.
PSW Operations - Quality & Compliance
- Support Senior Directors in ensuring all necessary associations, accreditations, licenses, civic, state, national, and international registrations, filings, other compliance requirement registrations are kept up-to-date, followed, and enforced for the PSW program
- Liaise with NACC, health and provincial regulatory or advisory committees as required to stay current with rules and requirements
- Ensure OI complies with all PSW program standards and NACC/PCC/MCU/OCC regulations as outlined by the departments.
- Ensure proper measures are maintained to safeguard all students, staff, clients, and partners
- Participate in any Association work on behalf of the Company when necessary or required
- Implement and monitor PSW KPIs
- Ensure all Oxford International Quality Standards are adhered to at all times
- Ensure all OI service and academic quality standards are adhered to at all times.
- Communicate collaboratively and pro-actively with internal and external program stakeholders.
- Coordinate and monitor student work placements, as required.
PSW Operations - Academic Program
- Ensure execution and quality of classes in compliance with the curriculum and our online platform (LMS)
- Teach PSW/HSW cohorts as required within budgetary expectations
- Provide cover for classes if/when required
- Ensure management and updating of PSW curriculum as required, in coordination with relevant Senior Directors
- Provide theoretical, laboratory and clinical instruction/supervision, in accordance with the Ontario and OI’s Personal/Home Support Worker Curriculum.
- Support the recruitment of partners for placements and work relationships for HSW and PSW students
- Plan and prepare instructional materials and resources that use a variety of teaching methods to promote student success.
- Create an environment that is conducive to learning and student development.
- Ensure students from diverse ethnic and language backgrounds are welcomed and supported.
- Contribute to a healthy, secure, and safe learning environment both in class and during placements.
- Maintain records of student attendance, grades, lab, and/or homework assignments.
- Build and sustain professional relationships with students, colleagues, community partners, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor students’ progress in the classroom and placement settings.
- Provide 1:1 student performance counselling/feedback sessions and advising students regarding academic matters
- Ensure implementation of school rules and regulations
- Ensure counselling of students in accordance with school guidelines
- Ensure fair and timely management of student disputes
- Ensure appropriate management of student discipline issues
- Ensure execution of student orientations and graduations
- Ensure appropriate certificates granted to graduating students
- Ensure instructor resources, equipment, materials, and supplies are maintained and updated as required and in accordance with the school budget
- Ensure all new instructors are observed in class before the end of their probationary period, and that all instructors are observed in class at least once a year
Qualifications and skills:
- A Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) with no practice restrictions.
- Must have a Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate.
- Minimum of two (2) years of current, relevant work experience in a Canadian clinical environment, preferably in long-term care, community, or chronic care settings.
- OR a minimum of 48 months of teaching experience in the vocation along with 24 months of work experience in the PSW field.
- OR a minimum of 24 months of work experience in the vocation and a Bachelor’s degree from a Canadian university or equivalent.
- Additional qualifications may include graduation from a College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) or an equivalent institution, and meeting the Instructor qualification standards outlined in the Regulations to the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other educational tools for effective teaching.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and instruct students effectively.
- Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and varying learning styles.
- Online teaching experience is a plus (training will be provided).
- Availability to teach in a hybrid schedule (online and in-person classes).
