About Remote Robotic Systems

Help build the next generation of autonomous systems operating at the intersection of robotics, aerospace, and defence technology. Remote Robotic Systems (RRS) is a Canadian robotics and defence-tech company helping organizations deploy enterprise-grade drones, uncrewed aircraft, robotic platforms, sensors, payloads, and remote operations technologies for mission-critical applications. Our solutions support customers across defence, public safety, security, industrial, infrastructure, energy, and government sectors.

Help build the next generation of autonomous systems operating at the intersection of robotics, aerospace, and defence technology. Remote Robotic Systems (RRS) is a Canadian robotics and defence-tech company helping organizations deploy enterprise-grade drones, uncrewed aircraft, robotic platforms, sensors, payloads, and remote operations technologies for mission-critical applications. Our solutions support customers across defence, public safety, security, industrial, infrastructure, energy, and government sectors.

Through our Airmetal team, we are developing innovative technologies that support autonomous operations in challenging environments. One of those initiatives is the development of inflatable floating landing platforms for drones, designed to operate reliably in real-world conditions and support the next generation of autonomous missions.

We’re a small, fast-moving team that values ownership, craftsmanship, practical problem solving, and the ability to turn ambitious ideas into working hardware.

The Role

Airmetal is looking for a Prototype Fabrication Specialist to build and test inflatable floating landing platforms for drones.

This is a hands‑on prototype fabrication role where you’ll work closely with a Structures Design Engineer to transform concepts into pressure‑tight, field‑ready hardware. You’ll own fabrication activities from cutting and assembly through welding, sealing, testing, and prototype refinement.

Fabric joining is at the core of this role. You’ll operate welding and sealing equipment, build soft‑structure assemblies, fabricate load‑bearing attachment points, and validate your work through real‑world testing. This is a highly iterative environment where building, testing, improving, and rebuilding often happens within the same day.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, enjoys working with their hands, and wants to help build something entirely new from the ground up.

What You Will Work On
Fabrication & Assembly
  • Build inflatable structures using RF welding, heat sealing, hot‑air welding, and related joining processes.
  • Fabricate coated‑fabric assemblies, pressure envelopes, seams, bonds, reinforcements, and hard points.
  • Assemble complete inflatable landing platforms from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform technical sewing, bonding, sealing, and assembly work where welding alone is not sufficient.
  • Build jigs, fixtures, templates, and fabrication aids to improve build consistency and repeatability.
Testing & Validation
  • Conduct weld coupon testing, leak‑down testing, peel testing, burst testing, and other fabrication quality checks.
  • Inspect completed assemblies and verify they meet performance requirements.
  • Document fabrication processes and testing results.
  • Work closely with engineering to identify improvements and resolve issues.
  • Participate in field deployment and product testing activities.
Shop Operations
  • Maintain fabrication equipment, tools, materials, and consumables.
  • Ensure the shop remains organized, safe, and ready for rapid prototyping.
  • Support material preparation, inventory management, and prototype builds.
  • Contribute ideas that improve manufacturing methods, product quality, and repeatability.
Core Requirements
  • Experience with fabrication, welding, assembly, upholstery, sailmaking, technical textiles, inflatable products, soft goods, composites, or similar hands‑on manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with RF welding, heat sealing, hot‑air welding, hot‑wedge welding, industrial sewing, bonding, or similar fabrication processes.
  • Ability to work from drawings, specifications, and documented work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and adapt during prototype development.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced build‑test‑iterate environment.
  • Able to work on‑site in Kanata, Ontario.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with inflatable boats, SUPs, technical textiles, sails, paragliders, parachutes, inflatable shelters, or similar products.
  • Experience with TPU‑coated fabrics, coated technical textiles, urethane films, or advanced materials.
  • Experience setting up jigs, fixtures, or repeatable fabrication processes.
  • Light machining, composites, or prototype fabrication experience.
  • Familiarity with drones, UAVs, RC aircraft, or robotics projects.
  • Experience supporting field testing or outdoor product deployments.
What Will Make You Successful
  • You take pride in your craftsmanship and attention to detail.
  • You enjoy building, testing, learning, and improving.
  • You communicate openly and collaborate well with engineers and technicians.
  • You are curious about why something failed and motivated to improve it.
  • You work safely and keep an organized workspace.
  • You take ownership of your work and follow through on commitments.
What We Offer
  • The opportunity to build a novel product at the intersection of robotics, aerospace, and advanced materials.
  • Hands‑on involvement in design iteration, fabrication, testing, and deployment.
  • Direct impact on product development and prototype success.
  • Close collaboration within a small, highly technical team.
  • Exposure to advanced materials, autonomous systems, and defence technologies.
  • A fast‑paced, highly collaborative environment where your contributions have a visible impact.
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and equity participation.
