Overview

Protection and Control Project Manager

Location: Vancouver, BCEmployment Type: Full-Time

About This Opportunity:

Shermco Canada is seeking a Protection and Control Project Manager to join our growing team in Vancouver, BC. This role will be responsible for managing and overseeing complex protection and control projects, working closely with utility clients across British Columbia and surrounding regions.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project planning, scope, schedule, and budget for assigned P&C projects

  • Serve as a primary technical and project liaison with clients, including utility PMO teams

  • Manage field teams performing testing, commissioning, and maintenance of:

    • Protective relays (electromechanical and microprocessor-based)

    • Powerline carrier, DFRs, RTUs, and associated control equipment

  • Oversee functional and end-to-end testing for transmission lines, transformers, circuit breakers, and capacitor banks

  • Ensure proper relay settings, in-service validations, and test documentation in line with regulatory and utility standards

  • Conduct QA/QC of field reports and support compliance with NERC PRC-005-6 and NERC CIP

  • Support RTU upgrades and modernization efforts

  • Interpret and validate technical drawings, one-line diagrams, and schematics

  • Maintain records, submit detailed field reports, and manage field scheduling and logistics

  • Participate in safety programs and support a culture of compliance and incident prevention

  • Any other duties you are assigned and trained to do
Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical diploma

  • 5+ years of experience in protection and control testing, commissioning, or field services, ideally with HV utility clients

  • Strong knowledge of SEL, GE, Westinghouse/ABB relay products

  • Familiar with software such as Protection Suite, RTS, and ProTest for relay testing

  • Experience with Doble 6150, Omicron, Vanguard, Arbiter, and PowerComm testing equipment

  • Proven background in project scope development, resource scheduling, and client-facing reporting

  • Proficient in reading schematics, prints, and understanding electrical utility standards

  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 or project scheduling software is an asset

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally and regionally

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Certifications & Training
  • OSHA 30, MSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR/First Aid, BBP, AED certifications (Shermco can provide if not held)

  • Familiarity with NERC PRC-005-6 and CIP compliance requirements

  • PMP certification is considered an asset

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background checks and drug screening
  • Willingness to work in varied environments and conditions, including outdoor/field settings
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel as needed for client projects
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English
