Job Description

Department: Altum Health
Site:West Park Healthcare Centre
Reports to: Site Manager
Work Model: On-Site
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Status: Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary:

The Prosthetic/Orthotic Technician provides high level technical expertise in the design and fabrication of “prostheses” and “orthoses” and their components in such a manner as to provide maximum fit, function, cosmesis and workmanship.

Duties:

  • Manufacture a wide range of prosthetic and orthotic devices while ensuring patient safety and high quality by following prescriptions provided and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Trouble-shoot devices that are not working optimally by diagnosing and servicing the componentry.
  • Advise clinical staff of fabricating options (cosmesis, strength of device and suitability) by utilizing information gathered from manufacturers of materials/components and comparison studies.
  • Develop and maintain fabricating skills and procedures through continuing education.
  • Instruct and supervise work term students and volunteers by providing guidance and support.
  • Provide back-up coverage to Senior Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician during planned absences and as required.
  • Assist in the promotion of the department as directed by manager.
  • Perform any other duties at the manager’s request that are deemed relevant to the position.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an OPC recognized technical Prosthetic and Orthotic program is required
  • OPC registered preferred
  • Ability to work as a member of a team

  • Demonstrated ability to meet production timelines
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous education
  • Good communication and organizational skills

  • Basic computer skills
