In this role, you will support various sales and business development tasks, from positioning to strategic proposals and qualification statements. All team members in our Canada-Northeast Geographic Sales Operations (GSO) team are expected to be proactive, possess excellent communication and listening skills, develop creative solutions, work well in a team, and be invested in Jacobs’ success.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Each day presents different activities to help position Jacobs for success in sales. As a Proposal Editor / Writer, you will be responsible for writing or editing proposal sections, proofreading, and managing small to medium-sized efforts when capacity allows. Your activities will include:

Writer / Editor

  • Lead the writing, editing, and research for complex or strategic proposal sections, and work independently with capture teams on smaller proposals.
  • Serve as the section lead for strategic proposals, ensuring quality and content accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance, identify, communicate, and mitigate potential issues.
  • Participate in pursuit strategies, kickoff, storyboard, and milestone meetings as appropriate.
  • Partner with CAM, Account Strategist, or Sales Operations staff to drive proposals, qualification statements, and presentations.

Proposal Management

  • Lead the coordination and preparation of proposals of all sizes, working directly with technical staff and supporting large, strategic opportunities under senior guidance.
  • Support planning and development of presentations and interviews.
  • Coordinate, write, edit, and research non-technical proposal sections, ensuring compliance and proactive issue management.
  • Participate in meetings and opportunity planning activities.
  • Develop knowledge of Jacobs’ markets, suggest teaming partners, and organize team structures during planning sessions.

General to Both Functions

  • Understand business objectives, priorities, and sales strategies related to proposals.
  • Apply sales operations procedures, policies, and branding guidelines.
  • Maintain and update business development tools and databases.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and support staff across the network.
  • Mentor junior staff when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate leadership, sales strategy, and industry knowledge growth over time.

Sales Functions and Processes

  • Exhibit advanced communication skills, understand proposal processes, and manage time effectively.
  • Write and update various proposal documents independently, suggest process improvements, and perform quality checks.
  • Require a BS/BA degree or equivalent, with at least 8 years of relevant experience in proposal management within the AEC industry, especially in transportation, water, architecture, interiors, planning, or urban design markets.
