Job description

Reporting to the V.P. Finance, the Property Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the daily accounting records of revenue-generating properties within an assigned portfolio, along with handling other related projects.

TASKS

• Maintain the day-to-day accounting records for a portfolio of properties;
• Complete quarterly and annual preparation and reporting of property financials, including balance sheets and income statements;
• Prepare year-end financial reporting packages;
• Account for sale transactions and new property acquisitions;
• Handle accounting for financing transactions, including construction draws and new debt agreements;
• Manage government filings for GST / QST;
• Identify process improvement opportunities and develop and implement process solutions;
• Assist with special projects as required.

SKILLS

• Previous experience in public accounting and understanding of the real estate sector are assets but not essential;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook;
• Strong understanding of accounting systems and software; experience with Spectra, Simply Accounting, and Building Stack is an asset;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
• Team player capable of developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
