Job summary

ICM Property Group, Calgary, is seeking a Property Accountant for full-cycle accounting across a property portfolio. The role ensures accurate recording of income, expenses, assets, and liabilities, with responsibility for month-end close and GAAP-compliant financial statements.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with Yardi. This position is a 6-month contract, in-person, based in Calgary, with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in accounting; combination with experience considered.
  • 2–5 years of full-cycle accounting experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills; Yardi experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Code utility and capital expenditure invoices to GL accounts and properties.
  • Review invoice accuracy and coordinate weekly cheque runs.
  • Maintain general ledgers and reconcile bank accounts for assigned properties.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare GST returns and ensure timely submissions; monitor regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in budgeting and financial analysis for the portfolio.

Job description

ICM Property Services is a full-service Property Management firm offering services for real estate, multifamily, and commercial properties. We have in-house maintenance personnel able to handle any maintenance issues on any property, as well as a diverse staff that handle day-to-day operations and marketing. We are RECA licensed and offer services in throughout Canada.

The Property Accountant will be responsible for the full cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties and will work closely with both the Senior Accounting Manager and accounting support staff. They must be able to prioritize, coordinate, and organize business tasks. We are looking for a positive, professional approach in planning, scheduling, communicating, and organizing the activities of the position. Role level and title will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Code utility and capital expenditure invoices to appropriate general ledger accounts, properties, and department classifications.
  • Review invoice accuracy, ensure proper approvals are obtained, and coordinate the weekly cheque run to ensure timely vendor payments.
  • Coordinate with Property Administrators to ensure tenants are set up correctly in the accounting system and identify any problem accounts.
  • Assist in processing monthly rent rolls and ensure accurate posting of rental income, charges, and
  • Maintain the general ledger for assigned properties, ensuring accurate recording of income, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, property-level balance sheets, and GST accounts
  • Maintain accurate records of capital expenditures and depreciation
  • Complete full-cycle accounting and prepare monthly financial statements for a portfolio of properties in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare the financial sections of monthly and quarterly property
  • Analyze variances between actual and budgeted financial
  • Assist in the preparation of operating and capital budgets that meet cash flow
  • Prepare CAM (Common Area Maintenance), insurance, and property tax
  • Complete annual operating cost reconciliations and quarterly
  • Prepare year-end adjusting entries, audit files, and assist with external
  • Prepare and file Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns in compliance with federal and provincial regulations; maintain supporting documentation and ensure accurate, timely submissions.
  • Monitor GST inputs and outputs to ensure correct reporting and identify
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and regulatory
  • Assist in developing and documenting accounting processes and procedures related to your
  • Stay current with new accounting technologies, systems, and best practices in property
  • Promote a client-focused attitude in all communications with customers, tenants, and the
  • Contribute to the overall success of the accounting department within the ICM Group of Companies, and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or a college/technical school diploma in a relevant area of accounting study preferred but not A combination of work experience and education will be considered.
