Position Summary

The Projects & Obsolescence Lead reports to the Manager, Obsolescence, and is responsible for the ownership and management of a significant portfolio of known obsolescence issues affecting the fleet. The Projects & Obsolescence Lead will work closely with other internal departments in the areas of Engineering, Supply Chain, Aftermarket / Customer Service, Commercial Programs, and the Executive leadership.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead cross-functional projects within schedule, budget, and quality to support aftermarket activities and customer operations.
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement project plans, and monitor project action plans; maintain project schedules, time and cost objectives and report regularly on progress; analyze potential risks and assist with the development of risk management recommendations.
  • Influence internal team to achieve targeted results, problem-solve issues and recommend solutions.
  • Monitor and prioritize activities; formulate process and assess progress against goals and objectives.
  • Assist in the development and recommendation of overall strategies for obsolescence management.
  • Analyze data and identify opportunities for project-related issue resolution; develop and present recommendations based on the analysis.
  • Support the planning of project budgets, recommend the allocation of financial resources to specific projects, and make logistical arrangements to maximize the effectiveness of the cross-functional project team.
  • Lead project meetings and attend organizational and strategy meetings.
  • Represent Corporate Operations, DHC customers, and the obsolescence projects in interdepartmental obsolescence team meetings.
  • Provide advice and information, guidance, and technical assistance in the validation, categorization, and prioritization of obsolescence issues.
  • Prepare reports, decks, briefings, and present results of findings for project-related issues to inform stakeholders and facilitate decision making.
  • Drive the project stakeholders to deliver the required inputs efficiently and steer the execution of the prioritized items first.
  • Ensure application of professional standards and company processes are followed in accomplishing work activities.
  • Always represent De Havilland in a professional and courteous manner in every interaction, both internally and externally with customers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Actively contribute to improve existing processes and support current DHC continuous improvement activities.

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in engineering, or science, preferably Aerospace related, or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management experience in an Aerospace related environment is required.
  • Experience in Obsolescence Management is considered a distinct asset.
  • Experience with De Havilland aircraft is considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment is required.
  • The ideal candidate has experience leading cross-functional teams to accomplish project goals and deliverables.
  • Experience in or understanding of aerospace certification requirements.
  • Experience in a manufacturing and production environment.
  • Understanding of Obsolescence challenges in the Aerospace industry, including the impact on customer operations, aftermarket sales and commercial development.
  • Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of project management.
  • Result-oriented, the ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, manages through ambiguity and complexity, and contributes to the development of governance systems for projects, including cadence of meetings, scorecard / metrics, and flow of information.
  • Experience holding individuals accountable inside and outside the organization.
  • Some occasional travel both domestically and internationally will be required therefore the successful candidate will be required to maintain any prerequisites and / or criteria to carry out travel legally.

  • Thorough technical knowledge of project management technical tools.
  • Excellent ability to communicate a strategy using PowerPoint and to work with Excel and MS-Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in clear and concise manner to multiple stakeholders, ensuring specific milestones for each project are set and met by each stakeholder.
