Job description

Hazardous Materials Technician

Location: Waterloo, ON

Join Pinchin's Hazardous Materials team in Waterloo as a Project Technologist. This role involves conducting worker exposure assessments, workplace monitoring, safety inspections, and audits. You will develop safety documentation, prepare technical reports, and liaise with clients to meet their needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site investigations for asbestos, mould, mercury, PCBs, lead, etc.
  • Collect and analyze building material samples
  • Perform field work, site visits, and supervise remediation activities
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors
  • Interpret sample results according to legislative and industry standards
  • Prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations
  • Inspect abatement contractors’ work to ensure compliance
  • Manage project timelines effectively
  • Engage with clients and subcontractors to address health and safety needs
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships
  • Maintain quality control within the team
Qualifications
  • College diploma in Environmental, Construction, or Architectural Technology, or BSc/BA in Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • Attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle
  • Willingness to travel to client sites
  • Availability for outside core hours and occasional weekends
