Job description

Are you a Project Supervisor? Are you looking for a new challenge? If so, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Project Supervisor to coordinate and supervise an integrated team of staff conducting maintenance and decommissioning field work. Can you see yourself being responsible for safe leadership, efficient utilization of resources, schedule adherence, and meeting production/profitability goals? What will you be doing!

  • Maintaining log and site reports including, site, production, time keeping, Daily Field Work report, and associated drawing sign offs.
  • Participating in daily/weekly meetings with Project Team/Managers/Planners and support services regarding planning and progress reporting.
  • Communicating the working schedule, scope, and forecasted activities to the Planner.
  • Ensuring trained and qualified resources are effectively deployed, aligned and utilized, increasing overall productivity.
  • Monitoring Plan of Day field work assignments utilizing the Daily Field Report and providing daily progress updates.
  • Preparing work permits, leading Pre-Job Briefings and Post Job Reviews.
  • Providing leadership that results in a safe work culture.
  • Consulting with Project Managers, Engineers, Operations, Planners and Work Management staff to prioritize and schedule project activities.
  • Facilitating walk-down activities and ensuring all walk-down participants understand the scope of work.
  • Liaising with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on technical execution of work.
  • Identifying any issues during project work activities and taking appropriate action where needed.
  • Developing recovery plans in response to emergent field activities.
  • Ensuring that the walkdown, Field Verification Checklist (FVC), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Work Instruction Package (WIP), Work Permit (WP), Order to Operate (OTO), and Clearance documentation have been completed before the execution of fieldwork activities.
  • Ensuring workers participate in appropriate pre-job brief meetings to ensure workers are fully engaged, and aware of all hazards associated with the planning and execution of work activities.
  • Ensuring workers understand the job or task assignment.
  • Ensuring only predetermined safe work practices are used during work execution, including the authorization to shut down unsafe work.
  • Reporting all injuries/near misses to appropriate management.
  • Preparing Accident/Injury Investigation reports.
  • Documenting personnel issues to support hiring, release, promotion or disciplinary actions.
  • Providing input and influence on decisions regarding scheduling of worker training and vacation based on infield activities.
  • Assisting with cost tracking, cost and resource estimating, and developing new WIPs.
  • Preparing WPs and pre-jobs for the daily tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Two (2) years' Technical or University diploma/degree, OR a journeyperson trades certification with a minimum of seven (7) years' relevant experience.
    • Diploma in Health & Safety an asset.
  • Experience
    • At least seven (7) years of relevant experience, with at least five (5) years of experience leading and executing field work.
    • Experience with construction, remediation, demolition and building maintenance.
    • Experience with radiological work an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    • Able to lead large crews in various disciplines.
    • Effective team building and leadership skills to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues and subordinates.
    • Self-motivating, disciplined and able to work independently, collaboratively and in difficult/high-pressure situations.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements.
    • Able to prepare accurate resource and cost estimates and schedule, run and report progress on multiple concurrent jobs.
    • Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergencies or unusual or hazardous conditions and lead others in such conditions.
    • Good overall knowledge of workplace safety issues.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
  • The environment may demand high vigilance for alarms, lights, and signals as a safety requirement.
  • Work in environments that require personal protective equipment and clothing, such as construction/decommissioning sites, contamination zones, and potentially confined spaces.
  • May involve working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Some exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial hazards during construction/demolition activities.
  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6 am.
