Job description

Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Project Supervisor to coordinate and supervise an integrated team of staff conducting maintenance and decommissioning fieldwork. What will you be doing!

  • Maintaining log/reports, including site, production, time keeping, Daily Field Work report, Work Instruction Package (WIP) sign-offs/status, and associated drawing sign-offs.
  • Participating in daily/weekly meetings with the Project Team/Managers/Planners, and supporting services regarding planning and progress reporting.
  • Communicating the Working Schedule (WS) scope and forecasted activities.
  • Ensuring trained and qualified resources are effectively deployed, aligned, and utilized to increase overall productivity.
  • Monitoring Plan of Day field work assignments utilizing the Daily Field Report and providing daily progress updates to the Project Manager.
  • Preparing work permits, leading Pre-Job Briefings and Post-Job Reviews, or delegating this responsibility as needed.
  • Consulting with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Operations, Planners and Work Management staff to prioritize and schedule project work activities.
  • Acting as a single-point-of-contact (SPOC) for work site-related activities, including facilitating walk-down activities, and ensuring all walk-down participants understand the scope of work.
  • Liaising with Subject Matter Experts (SMES) on the technical execution of work.
  • Identifying any issues during project work activities and taking appropriate action where needed.
  • Developing a recovery plan in response to emergent field activities as needed.
  • Ensuring Walk Down, Field Verification Checklist (FVC), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), WIP, WP, Order to Operate (OTO) and Clearance documentation identifying the hazards and mitigation techniques have been completed prior to the execution of field work activities.
  • Ensuring workers participate in appropriate pre-job brief meetings to ensure workers are fully engaged, and aware of all hazards associated with the planning and execution of work activities.
  • Ensuring workers participate in the appropriate post-job brief meeting to ensure workers have an opportunity to convey any lessons learned.
  • Ensuring workers understand the job or task assignment.
  • Ensuring only predetermined safe work practices are used during the course of work execution, including the authorization to shut down work that is unsafe.
  • Assisting with cost tracking, cost and resource estimating, and the development of new WIPs.
  • Preparing WPs and pre-jobs for the daily tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • A two (2)-year Technical or University diploma/degree, or a Journeyperson trades certification with seven (7) years' or more of relevant experience.
    • A Diploma in Health & Safety is an asset.
  • Experience
    • At least seven (7) years of relevant experience, with at least five (5) years of leading and executing field work.
    • Experience with construction, remediation, demolition and building maintenance.
    • Experience with radiological work is an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Effective team building and leadership skills are needed to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues and subordinates.
    • Self-motivating, disciplined and able to work independently, collaboratively and in difficult/high-pressure situations.
    • Ability to effectively manage change and respond to needs as they evolve while maintaining budget and timeline.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
    • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements.
    • Ability to prepare accurate resource and cost estimates and schedule, as well as run and report progress on multiple concurrent jobs.
    • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and to lead others in such conditions.
    • Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOS, RWPS (Radiological Work Plan) and WPS.
    • Good overall knowledge of workplace safety issues & the work permit system.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6 a.m.
  • Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
  • The environment may demand high vigilance to alarms, lights and signals as a safety requirement.
  • Working in environments that require personal protective equipment and clothing, including construction/decommissioning sites, contamination zones and potentially confined spaces.
  • Work may involve working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Some exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial hazards during construction/demolition activities.
