Reporting to the Integrated Design Leader for Energy & Resources, the Project Services Manager (PSM) will be an experienced senior leader who has several years of experience managing professional services teams, specifically teams of project controls, document management, planning and scheduling, procurement and estimating professionals. The PSM will lead the project service functions of the Energy and Resources BOU and will consequently ensure that their team is aligned with BOU direction which supports Stantec’s Strategic Plan. They will be responsible for the overall strategy of the Project Services team, aligning the growth and development of the team, processes and procedures, and the use of technology for delivery of services to E&R clients in the most effective and efficient manner. The PSM will collaborate with E&R operational and Project Leadership to align resourcing needs and allocation of project services personnel across E&R, as well as process, practice and systems required to deliver excellence to our clients. The PSM will display an ability and willingness to help team leaders and individual team members achieve their goals and objectives, while simultaneously meeting or beating Stantec / E&R Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and metrics. The PSM will create new departmental KPI’s, goals and management structures so that the team continues to operate at a high-performance level and is meaningfully contributing to business goals. This role can be based in any Energy & Resources office location in North America. The position requires regular in-office presence in support of our flexible work practice.
Your Key Responsibilities
Oversee project service teams (including cost control, document control, planning / scheduling, procurement and estimating) with issue resolution and decision making and determine if project issues merit escalation to the leadership team.
Lead large, complex teams through challenging project assignments and complex client environments.
Lead programs / project delivery for existing programs / projects in the areas of overall management and project controls and provide analysis of key performance metrics and program strategies.
Assure that projects & associated tasks within the business are staffed with the appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project objectives within company profit model.
Assist team members with proactive project setup by working with the project to ensure project execution plans including agreed upon scope, schedule and budget are in place and fully understood by all team members.
Communicate and monitor goals, constraints, and priorities to the service team through defined KPI’s.
Responsible for team members’ development and guidance, including monitoring and evaluating performance, providing coaching for high performance, initiating performance improvement measures, goal and objective setting, salary review, training, and career development.
Responsible for recruiting talent through internal and external talent scans while ensuring appropriate staff mix with line of sight to current and future talent needs.
Create a culture of collaboration and teamwork, including fostering growth of our Global Delivery Centers to ensure that appropriate team members are selected for the appropriate job.
Facilitate information flow to and from the E&R Operational Leadership and the project service teams and ensure proper coordination with other individuals responsible for key aspects of the project / program delivery.
Verify that project delivery activities are consistent with all pre-established policies, directives, business processes and procedures.
Provide strategic guidance and vision for growth, including but not limited to team makeup, new industries / verticals, growth through implementation of digital tools.
Assist with scaling and planning for growth in the future. Be the speaker and stakeholder for changes to the roadmap on behalf of our business, clients and services team.
Analyze, triage and then escalate issues and opportunities to business leadership.
Communicate regularly with various departments, including collaboration on cross-departmental initiatives.
Participate in conferences, as required, including creating then presenting content or leading customer engagements.
Maintain a Project Service Team utilization of 80% and personal utilization of 20-30%.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
In-depth knowledge of project delivery including project management, cost control, planning / scheduling, document control, procurement and estimating.
Strong computer skills : Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams), SharePoint and Power BI
Must be self-sufficient, initiative-taking and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
Experience in implementation and use of project delivery systems and software (e.g., Oracle, PRISM. Primavera).
Experience in the operation and analysis of databases, software, as well as data retrieval methodologies.
Natural leader and team builder who can build strong relationships quickly.
Experience in coaching and mentoring other leaders and holding them to account.
Strong analytical skills to review information and ensure accuracy as well as identify issues, concerns, and potential mitigations.
Excellent time management skills, detailed oriented and resourceful. Must be able to successfully work both collaboratively and independently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude in building relationships and credibility with professionals at any level in the organization.
Must be able to adjust and pivot fluidly, to accommodate moderate to high levels of growth.
Reasoning ability to interpret an extensive variety of information in mathematical or diagram form and work with abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
Education and Experience
University degree / diploma in engineering, finance, accounting, project management or combination of relevant experience and education.
Minimum of 15+ years’ experience in program or project management including direct experience in Cost Control / Scheduling, Document Management and Controls, Procurement and Estimating functions.
Minimum of 10+ years in a leadership position
Project Management Professional (PMP) or AACE Certification is considered an asset.
Construction / Field Experience is considered an asset.
