Project Risk Analyst (Construction Claims)

Maple Reinders Group is hiring a Project Risk Analyst to manage, mitigate and resolve construction-related claims, focusing on delays, cost overruns, scope changes, and disputes, in co-ordination with project operations. Key duties include reviewing contracts, analyzing claims, ensuring compliance, negotiating settlements, and collaborating on dispute resolution. Participation in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) may also be required.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • We look forward to your experience and expertise to review project schedules, contracts, change orders, and claims notices to assess validity and scope to analyze claim impacts on budgets, timelines, and resources.
  • Working closely with the Operations teams and Project Managers the Project Risk Analyst will perform schedule analysis to identify delays and risks as well as identify discrepancies between contractual obligations and project execution that may lead to claims.
  • When claims do materialize the Project Risk Analyst will prepare claim submissions and responses with supporting documentation and manage claims related to delays, cost overruns, scope changes, quality issues, unforeseen conditions, or breach of contract, ensuring claims are documented and compliant with legal requirements, working closely with legal teams.
  • As part of the claims management process generate progress reports on claims status, financial impacts, and timelines for management.
  • Leading dispute resolution efforts, negotiations, and escalate unresolved claims for mediation or arbitration with legal support in order to efficiently move claim to resolution applying best practices to determine when legal involvement is necessary and providing support external counsel.
  • Collaboration with the project teams to address technical aspects of claims will be a key to successful integration within the organization while training teams, promoting best practices, and recommending improvements in claims management, dispute resolution, and scheduling.

Risk Management:

  • Proactively identify potential claims or disputes during the project life cycle through regular assessments and development of risk mitigation strategies to minimize exposures to claims.
  • Review and interpret construction contract terms and conditions to ensure proper claim management and compliance.
  • Act as a key point of contact in disputes, working toward amicable resolutions, preventing escalation, and facilitating mediation or arbitration when required, including preparing necessary documentation.

General Expectations

  • Travel will be required on a case basis.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Law, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field; a construction legal background is highly preferred.
  • Professional certifications (PMP, P.Eng.) are an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., CCDC, subcontractor agreements), legal principles related to claims, and relevant construction laws and regulations.
  • 5 years of experience in construction claims management, preferably within heavy civil and/or ICI construction.
  • Proficient in project scheduling, including Time Impact Analysis (TIA), and scheduling software (MS Project and Primavera P6).
  • Experience in dispute resolution processes, including mediation and arbitration, is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple claims and meet deadlines.
