Job summary

HITACHI RAIL STS CANADA, INC. is seeking a seasoned project planner to support complex schedules and project controls in Mississauga. You will deliver schedule insights, lead critical path analyses, and run scenario planning for timely decision-making.

The role requires expert Primavera P6 usage, MS Project proficiency, and strong data integrity across platforms. You will collaborate with stakeholders and contribute to cost and risk management in a fast-paced rail environment.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 8 years of relevant project planning experience.
  • Strong experience with Primavera P6.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Project.
  • Understanding dependency logic and critical path.

Responsibilities

  • Provide schedule insights, critical path analysis, and scenario planning for strategic decision-making.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize complex project schedules in Primavera P6.
  • Create and manage resource-loaded schedules including manpower, equipment, and cost allocation.
  • Prepare Time Impact Analyses (TIA) and delay assessments; model scenarios and evaluate impacts.
  • Import/export and integrate schedules across platforms while ensuring data integrity and version control.
  • Create Power BI dashboards for KPIs and performance trends.
  • Utilize TILOS for linear infrastructure projects to optimize sequencing.
  • Support project controls interfaces including cost, risk, procurement, and engineering.
  • Attend customer and subcontractor scheduling meetings with the Lead Planner.
  • Monitor progress to ensure compliance with contract and schedule.
  • Support Lead Planner and Project Manager as needed.

Job Description
Accountabilities
  • Ability to support project teams by providing schedule insights, critical path analysis, and scenario planning for strategic decision-making.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6, including development, maintenance, and optimization of complex project schedules.
  • Ability to create and manage resource‑loaded schedules, including manpower, equipment, and cost allocation for accurate forecasting and progress tracking.
  • Strong experience preparing Time Impact Analyses (TIA) and delay assessments, with the ability to model scenarios and evaluate schedule impacts.
  • Skilled in importing, exporting, and integrating schedules across multiple platforms and data sources while ensuring data integrity and version control.
  • Advanced capability in Power BI, including creation of dashboards, data modeling, and visual analytics for reporting project KPIs and performance trends.
  • Proficient in TILOS (Time‑Location/Linear Scheduling) for linear infrastructure projects (pipelines, rail, transmission lines, etc.) to optimize sequencing and mitigate space/time conflicts.
  • Strong understanding of project controls interfaces, including cost control, risk management, procurement, and engineering workstreams.
  • Assist Lead Planner with the attendance of meetings with the customer and subcontractors regarding scheduling and project issues, ensuring that company interests are fully represented
  • Monitor work in progress to ensure that work is executed in compliance with the requirements of the contract and schedule
  • Execution of other duties as directed by the Lead Planner and/or Project Manager
RequiredSkills & Experience

(MUST-HAVE minimum requirements)

  • 5 to 8 years of relevant project planning experience
  • Strong experience with using Primavera P6
  • Ability to use Microsoft Project
  • Strong ability to understand and analyze dependency logic and project critical path
  • Highly motivated and adaptable to a time-sensitive environment in order to respond quickly and effectively to unanticipated high workloads, events and emergencies
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and effectively handle pressures associated with this role
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, Project constituents, third parties and general public
DesiredSkills & Experience
  • 3- 5 years of experience with rail construction projects or with large infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience with schedule analysis tools (Ex. TILOS, Acumen FUSE, Other)
  • Excellent understanding of project management techniques, in addition to effective planning and scheduling skills.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills in liaising with project stakeholders in the development of project schedules, while identifying milestones and critical paths.
Education & Qualification
  • Degree in Business or Engineering, Ontario P.Eng highly desirable.
  • Clear Criminal Background Check
